SNL Moment: Laughing at the media (vanity)

I wanted to share a brief Saturday Night Live skit I saw this weekend because of an amusing tidbit. In this skit, the cast portrayed a number of make-believe resignations in the Bush administration. In the last part, the skit used a scenario where Scott McClellan resigned as press secretary and the White House replaced him with a snippy teenage girl (portrayed by host Lindsay Lohan).

Lohan’s character held a press conference where she made life difficult for the press corps. She belittled the reporters, brushed off their questions, and acted visibly bored about having to talk to them at all. The reporters all looked really stupid and personality-deficient, and Lohan’s character clearly viewed them as insignificant dweebs.

Finally, in response to a question about whether more resignations were coming in order to improve Bush’s poll numbers, the teenage press secretary said that reporters didn’t know anything about how to get more popular because the press corps is so unpopular. She said, “Haven’t you guys heard of something called the Internet? Don’t you read the message boards? They all say ‘The White House Press Corps sucks’ and ‘The White House Press Corps is so lame.’” Bewildered, the reporters all stared at one another dumbly as if they had never known this before.

I got a chuckle out of this scene because it gave a good portrayal of how clueless and stupid the White House Press Corps is. And when she mentioned the message boards, I was thinking, “Ha! She’s talking about my FRiends at FR.”

All in all, a nice humiliation of the liberal press. The overall show was just so-so, but that bit was worth it!

Thanks for sharing BUT there is NOTHING good about anything that SNL has to do with the Bush or the this administration.

That opening bit was the highlight of the show.

Really? I haven't watch SNL in years. Once in a while, a friend will forward a skit, and more often than not I stop it 10 seconds later. It should have been cancelled long long ago.

I can't believe they did a new show Easter weekend. That's unheard of. Usually the cast is off.

I didn't even realize that SNL was still on TV. Do people actually watch that? For some reason it seems like watching Archie Bunker.

SNL only attacked the MSM because in their warped minds they view the media as dumb corporate whores not as the leftwing whores they are.

You are 99% correct, but every now and then that 1% slips in - I think it makes the liberals feel open-minded if they throw us an occasional crumb.

I used to watch SNL every chance I got, but quit three years ago when it ceased being funny, a lot like Letterman's show. I've gotten to the point I don't watch any of the late night programs because most of them really suck!

After enduring so may SNL bash Bush skits, I saw this skit, it was good. The look on the faces of press corps was priceless. Then I fell asleep.

SNL, Letterman, Rolling Stone magazine . . . . The undead.
Kultursmog, zombies propped up by pathetic, aging boomers.

I've always thought that the Cheney imitation is *really* funny.
