Thursday U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance announced extortion and wire fraud charges against van der Sloot. Vance claimed van der Sloot sold false information about Natalie Holloway’s disappearance and circumstances surrounding her death to someone in Birmingham. Vance said $15,000 was wired from Birmingham to the Netherlands on May 10, 2010 and that van der Sloot was ultimately seeking $250,000.
