Republicans favor Jesse Kelly as their candidate for former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' Arizona House seat, according to a poll released first to POLITICO. A Wenzel Strategies survey, paid for by Citizens United Political Victory Fund, shows Kelly is ahead of his nearest GOP primary challenger by close to 25 percentage points in the special election. The poll, taken Wednesday and Thursday of this week, puts Kelly at 43 percent to State Sen. Frank Antenori's 18 percent and sports commentator Dave Sitton's 10 percent. Twenty percent aren't sure. The poll included 700 respondents and has a 3.68 percent margin of error....

Jesse Kelly In the wake of this stunning tragedy, my prayers are with Rep. Giffords, her husband Mark and the rest of her family. May God’s strength comfort her as we pray together for her recovery. We mourn for those who lost their lives in this horrible act. Senseless acts of violence such as this have absolutely no place in American politics. PHOENIX (AP) - The races for two southern Arizona congressional seats were still too close to call at midday Wednesday. Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was holding onto a 1% lead against Republican challenger Jesse Kelly in the 8th Congressional District. In the 7th Congressional District, Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva had a lead of nearly three percentage points, and he declared victory.

Could the Democrats in Tucson get any more demented? We’ve already documented how they are busing in SEIU union thugs, trying to commit voter registration fraud, and trying to intimidate Republican candidates at their own events… but now they’re resorting to actual physical violence!? At the first debate at the University of Arizona between Democrat Gabrielle Giffords and Republican Jesse Kelly, a fictitious group called Republicorp showed up trying to convince people that the Republican Party is bought off by Wall St (despite the FACT that most contributions from Wall St went to Obama). Well, it appears that these may...

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz.— House GOP hopeful Jesse Kelly earned a standing ovation at a town-hall meeting Monday when he bragged that a liberal leaning website ranked him as the No. 1 “most terrifying” would-be lawmaker. Minutes into the event, Kelly proudly highlighted the list on Salon.com of the 10 most terrifying candidates. “Are you one of them?” a member of the audience of 150 asked. Kelly nodded affirmatively, held up his index finger and said, “Number One.” The crowd roared, with some standing in approval. “We have it up on the wall in the office,” added Kelly. The 29-year-old Marine...

TUCSON — When it comes to endangered species in Arizona, there are the bonytail chub, the Sonoran pronghorn and, perhaps soon, the Congressional Democrat. Of the state’s eight House members, five are Democrats. That may change next Tuesday, with four of the five in varying degrees of trouble. Democrats, Republicans and independents are about evenly split in Arizona, but Republicans could soon have a virtual lock on the upper reaches of power in the state.

The University of Arizona hosted a crowd of nearly 1,000 people in the Arizona Memorial Student Union to watch incumbent Democrat Gabrielle Giffords, Republican Jesse Kelly and Libertarian Steven Stoltz face questions from three panelists Monday evening. But it was Kelly who held the crowd’s attention and captured their imagination. The Eighth Congressional District forum provided a platform for Jesse Kelly to address the real issues facing Arizona’s citizens and proudly differentiate himself from his liberal opponent, Giffords — who does not support SB 1070, as the majority of our state does. Despite being in hostile territory, Kelly more than...

Jesse Kelly and Gabrielle Giffords squared off in a debate that Giffords won’t soon forget I remember a time when politics was fun to watch. When it felt great to be an American. When a leader stood up for what he believed, unashamed. I remember when there was no such thing as political correctness. When common sense and reason flowed like 75 cent gas. When pride in your country meant something and the President didn’t apologize to the world for American exceptionalism. I spent my later teen years in the 80’s and even though I never had the opportunity to...

Tucson, AZ The Cook Political Report has joined the Rothenberg Report in rating AZ 8 as a “Toss Up.” These ratings changes clearly demonstrate that incumbent Gabrielle Giffords is in serious trouble. This recent shift confirms the significant momentum in favor of the Kelly campaign. Cook has moved AZ 8 from “Likely Democratic”, when Kelly first announced in 2009, to the current “Toss Up” rating. “The voters are responding to our message of economic growth and new jobs for Southern Arizona and they are rejecting the job-killing Giffords agenda of higher taxes and more government regulations,” stated Kelly in reaction...

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a centrist Democrat from Arizona who is trying to defend her seat after voting for three main items on President Barack Obama’s agenda — the health care overhaul, the stimulus bill and cap-and-trade – announced today that she had won endorsements from a number of local Arizona Republicans. At a press conference today, the first-term “Blue Dog” Democrat welcomed the backing of former Arizona state Reps. Jennifer Burns and Pete Hershberger, both Republicans, as well as Sahuarita Mayor Lynne Skelton and Sierra Vista Mayor Robert Strain. (Italics added)

With less than four weeks left to Election Day, the DCCC is reshuffling where it plans to air ads in the final weeks of the campaign - a key indicator of the its candidates' strength in key battleground states. According to ad buy data confirmed by both Democratic and Republican sources, the DCCC has reduced its ad reservations for the second to last week of the campaign - Oct. 19 to Oct. 29 - in eight districts, seven of which are held by Democrats. In a few of the districts, Democratic sources insist that the changes were made from a...

Sarah Palin is picking up her online and fundraising efforts on behalf of three Republicans looking to unseat incumbent Arizona Democrats in November. Palin is urging her supporters to get behind David Schweikert, Paul Gosar and Jesse Kelly in their bids against U.S. Reps. Harry Mitchell of Tempe, Ann Kirkpatrick of Flagstaff and Gabrielle Giffords of Tucson. Palin has targeted 20 races nationwide where she wants to help Republican challengers. The three Arizona races could be indicators of how well Republicans are doing nationally in a year when Democrats and President Barack Obama could face voters’ wrath over the economy...

Governor Brewer stated the following about Jesse, “There is no question that Jesse Kelly is the best candidate - a dynamic leader with business and military experience who will stand up to President Obama and fight for Arizonans in Washington.” When Jesse Kelly is in Congress, he will join Governor Brewer in supporting SB 1070 over the opposition of President Obama and Gabrielle Giffords. Kelly stated, “Governor Brewer has led the fight to defend the citizens...

If there was ever any question about the REAL CHANGE that is coming, just look at Jesse Kelly, a young Marine who faced a Republican-establishment candidate in Tuesday’s primary and won. Our PAC, WarriorsforCongress.com, wasn’t listening to the establishment. We didn’t care that the money was against Jesse Kelly. “No, we can’t help him. He won’t win.” That’s what we were told by “establishment” folks when we asked them to help Jesse. We knew better. Jesse Kelly is a Warrior. We looked at him and saw a man who put his life on the line for our Constitution. We saw...

TUCSON - The battle between Democrat Gabrielle Giffords and Republican Jesse Kelly for District 8 has begun and it's already being called one of the top races in the country. For Giffords, the primary was a breeze and she said she's not going to make any changes now that she actually has an opponent. Giffords said, "I'm gonna run on my work that I've done, my reputation and my focus on Southern Arizona. My record really speaks for itself." Kelly said that's exactly what he's running his campaign on, Giffords record. He said, "Four years of failure. She failed on...

SIERRA VISTA — Now the real campaign can begin for the Congressional District 8 seat, with Republican Jesse Kelly taking the primary election. That race started out with five GOP candidates — Kelly, Andy Goss, Brian Miller, Jonathan Paton and Jay Quick. But the GOP primary fight was really down to Kelly and Paton after Goss and Miller bowed out of the race and Quick ran a low-key campaign. “There are many Democrats who are unhappy with Gabrielle Giffords,” the Democratic congresswoman representing Congressional District 8, which includes all of Cochise County, Kelly said. The object is to “have a...
