UNITED NATIONS -- Canada will boycott Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at the United Nations on Wednesday, saying his outbursts about the Holocaust and Israel are "shameful." Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon will be at the world body to attend the opening of the UN General Assembly's annual debate, but officials signal he and other members of the Canadian delegation will vacate the Canadian seats when the Islamic republic's President approaches the podium. Walking out of the chamber is seen as a strong diplomatic show of disgust at the UN -- and since the chamber is generally packed on the first...

TEHRAN (AFP) - – Iran's hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is seeking a second term in office, reiterated on Wednesday his anti-Israel stance by calling the Holocaust a "big deception". Ahmadinejad also said liberal democracies of the world have degraded "human values," the Iranian state television news website quoted him as saying. "The identity of the liberal democracy has been exposed to the world by its protection of the most criminal regime in the history of humanity, the Zionist regime, by using the big deception of the Holocaust." "There is no doubt that the only way to replace the liberal...

Jewish groups were up in arms today when it was revealed that Channel 4's "alternative" Christmas Day broadcast is to be delivered by President Ahmadinejad of Iran. Mr Ahmadinejad's speech will go out at 7.15pm, four hours after the Queen's traditional Christmas Day message is broadcast on the main channels. His message is a spiritual one but includes some more nakedly political elements - including the implicit claim that if Jesus Christ were alive today, he would oppose US hegemony. “If Christ was on Earth today undoubtedly he would stand with the people in opposition to bullying, ill-tempered and expansionist...

News, NYTimes.com and many other major news Web sites.

His thirst for the limelight has driven him to launch a multilingual blog and issue a string of headline-grabbing statements. But Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was surprisingly camera-shy when his extrovert persona drew the attention of Hollywood, turning down a request by Oliver Stone, the director of JFK, Nixon and Platoon, to make a documentary film about him. He dismissed the American film-maker as "part of the Great Satan", the Iranian regime's standard term of abuse for the US. Mr Ahmadinejad's aides said Stone had requested special access to the president after contacting his office through intermediaries in the Iranian...

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ordered resumption of direct flights to the US after a 26-year break. Nourollah Rezaei-Niaraki, head of the Civil Aviation Organization, said the US aviation organisations had been informed of the development. Iran and the US broke off their diplomatic relations after a 444-day occupation of the American embassy in Tehran in 1979 by radical Iranian students.
