`I Saw the Suffering' By Lynn Waddell, Newsweek Web Exclusive Faith Fippinger, a 62-year-old retired teacher of the blind, was one of more than 200 international human shields who hunkered down in Iraq early this year in hopes of discouraging a U.S. attack. FOR FIPPINGER, it was the latest in a long series of global-idealist adventures. She's lived in Alaska with Eskimos, with the Aborigines in Australia and taught in Fiji and Japan. But it may be the first time her travels land her in jail. While more than half the human shields left Iraq before the war started, Fippinger...

The International Committee of the Red Cross has decided to diminish the number of non-Iraqi personnel in Baghdad citing an elevated risk of terrorist attack. Credible information indicating that terrorist factions loyal to Saddam Hussein have targeted the Red Cross in Baghdad has surfaced sparking the move by the international committee. In the face of this threat it is obvious what is needed in Baghdad, the intestinal fortitude of those human shields! Before the coalition took action to remove Saddam Hussein from his seat of terror the world saw hundreds if not thousands of people with the bravery and wherewithal...

She's been hailed as a heroine by some and condemned as a traitor by others, but according to the federal government, a retired Florida school teacher who spent three months as a "human shield" in Iraq is a criminal who owes $10,000 and faces up to 12 years in prison if she doesn't pay. Faith Fippinger, 62, traveled to Al Daura oil refinery southeast of Baghdad in mid-February along with more than a dozen other anti-war protesters organized by the London group Human Shields. The demonstrators set out to position themselves at schools, orphanages and hospitals, and hoped their presence...

I'll skip the boring part and go right to the part were this guy wakes up: As the Americans were approaching the soldiers guarding the power plant started to slip away. "Then I got the idea that perhaps they would not fight to the very end." The shields were told that it would be best for them to leave. A room had been reserved for them in the Sheraton Hotel. Four or five of the shields crammed into room 506 of the Sheraton. It was a fancy four-star hotel costing 100 dollars a night. The other guests were war correspondents,...

U.K. Citizen/Human Shield/High Rantress Ms. Uzma Bashir AKA "Baghdad Betty" Title: "A Lady With Real Attitude" By Paul Belden BAGHDAD - On the first night of bombing in Baghdad, I recall having written about a much-loved young peace activist named Uzma Bashir who had gone to Iraq to serve as a human shield, and whose many friends had gathered in an Amman hotel to hear the latest news from Iraq. They were all very frightened for her safety, I wrote. They needn't have bothered. As it turned out, the bombing campaign didn't hurt Uzma one bit. It did, however, really...

MORE INFORMATION ON U.K. CITIZEN AND FORMER HUMAN SHIELD / SADDAM SYMPATHIZER / SOCIALIST WORKER 'REPORTER' MS. UZMA BASHIR (aka "BAGHDAD BASHIR") (Scroll down for reference) TEXT OF ARTICLE: It was, by any measure, an astonishing coincidence. As the biggest statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad was pulled down "spontaneously" in front of the world's media, the Stars and Stripes which flew on the Pentagon on 11 September was at hand to be draped over its face. The US army denied that the toppling of the 20ft edifice by a tank tower was stage-managed. It was a coincidence, they...

A rabid Western 'human shield' was captured on video insulting the liberation force of US Marines as they entered the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad, shoving propaganda in people's faces, as well impeding official Coalition military activity when the US forces stood guard outside in front of the Palestine Hotel, near the square where the large statue of Saddam was toppled.

Just caught this on LBC (Lebanon Broadcasting Corp) news in Arabic about one hour ago (9:15 p.m. Eastern Time). They showed a dramatic review of the day's events in Baghdad centering around liberation of central Baghdad. One clip showed US tanks moving into the historic square with the huge Saddam statue that was toppled. This square seems to be very near a hotel for Westerners in Baghdad.Next clip showed the two Iraqi guys holding up a banner assailing and ridiculing "human shields" as "wankers" and urging them to 'go home'.The final clip was of what appeared to me to be a "human...

Ban me, but have the courage to accept the truth. This War is wrong. Many innocent Iraqis have died. Many Americans have died. Iraq is in chaos. No food. No water. No power. I don't care if staged events involving a few criminals and looters make the people appear to be happy. Ask the ones who had their lives destroyed by American bombs. There are no WMDs. America will remain in Iraq long enough to: A) plunder its resouces B) ensure a Bush election victory in spite of massive deficits and a terrible economy. THIS WAR IS WRONG.

American Peace Activist Shot in West BankSaturday April 5, 2003 7:30 PM JERUSALEM (AP) - An American peace activist working as a human shield in the West Bank was seriously wounded on Saturday when Israeli troops allegedly opened fire on him. Brian Avery, 24, from Albuquerque, N.M., heard shots fired and came out of his apartment building to investigate just as an armored personnel carrier rounded a corner, said Tobias Karlsson, a fellow activist. Both Avery and Karlsson are members of the International Solidarity Movement, the Palestinian-backed group from Stockholm, Sweden. ``We had our hands up and we were wearing...

How do you admit you were wrong? What do you do when you realize those you were defending in fact did not want your defense and wanted something completely different from you and from the world? This is my story. It will probably upset everybody - those with whom I have fought for peace all my life and those for whom the decision for war comes a bit too fast.
