I'm as up to speed on posting hyperlinks and pictures in a thread or reply as the average FReeper, but my main source of making Text to HTML is going away. Currently I'm using an older version of Google Docs that has an edit HTML option. But Google Docs (stupid idiots that they are) will soon be disabling this option. Most of my FReeping is done at work (shhh - don't tell my IT guys), so I can't download a good text to HTML editor. I also don't have access to Microsoft Outlook for email purposes. What I've been looking...

Or, learn to code the next Facebookâ„¢ in your spare time. Really for true about the Facebookâ„¢ part. It was initially written using this technology so that should give you some idea what is possible if you master this idiom. Admittedly, it doesn't scale to 800 million users, but it is pretty serviceable for most people and it's free. Learning to program earns you power. Steadily all of the machines around us are morphing into computers surrounded by hardware that mediates the processor's interaction with the physical world. To change the behavior of any given machine all you need...

It's time for a new HTML reference so you can make your posts look cool. HTML means Hyper Text Markup Language. It's a set of simple commands used to format the text of your posts, add images, or links, or change the appearance. URL is Uniform Resource Locator. It's the name of the page or the picture that you see, the www.http:// stuff. You'll need to use the URL to make links and post pictures. Quotation Marks Quotes have to be used around the URLs for web pages and images on Free Republic. Some systems do not require this. Ours...

An unpatched critical flaw in 64-bit Windows 7 leaves computers vulnerable to a full 'blue screen of death' system crash. The memory corruption bug in x64 Win 7 could also allow malicious kernel-level code to be injected into machines, security alert biz Secunia warns. Fortunately the 32-bit version of Windows 7 is immune to the flaw, which has been pinned down to the win32k.sys operating system file - which contains the kernel portion of the Windows user interface and related infrastructure.Proof-of-concept code showing how to crash vulnerable Win 7 boxes has been leaked: the simple HTML script, when opened in...

HTML has evolved considerably since it was first mapped out by Tim Berners-Lee more than 20 years ago. Now we're up to HTML 5.0, which could have a significant effect on the business intelligence and CRM landscape. "HTML5 is a big push forward, especially considering how it handles different media as well as cross-device portability," said Tiemo Winterkamp, senior vice president of global marketing at business intelligence (BI) vendor arcplan. "Both are key areas to help us with mobile scenarios."In the past, browsers were dependent on other technologies such as Flash, Silverlight or Java to render rich internet applications (RIA)....

Help! I'm using frames and trying to get a website up asap. Please don't suggest css/dreamweaver etc. Thanks. Problem: Within a frame I just want (ideally) a FORMS button to reload the whole frames site - eg load index.html - starting at home page in the same window/tab. The first example works as a "Back button" - the second almost works as a home button but it loads the homepage in the current frame. Note: A "leading" space is used to allow the html to display ... The following works: ---------------------- Forms & Java - "Back Button" -------- Successfully loads...

I am modifying html of a Word document that contains an image. Previously, the image location was an "absolute" location, e.g. src="C:/folder1/folder2/image001.jpg" Now, however, I want the image location to be relative, not absolute. Specifically, I want to keep the html file and the image file in the same folder, regardless of name, and I want the html to be able to find the image file. I thought that this statement would do it: src="image001.jpg" However, when I view the html, I see no image, only that dreaded empty box. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Several times lately I've wanted to embed a YouTube video in an FR thread. I copy the embedding code from YouTube, put it in the Body box, but when I preview or post, it doesn't show up. I'm sure I've seen flash videos embedded (the fundraiser box for example), but I can't seem to find any threads with one so I can look at the source to see what FR likes.I've tried tweaking YouTube's code a little but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

It would be nice if, when we want to use some tags for emphasis (such as <em> to denote someone else's comment), or bolding, if we didn't have to then revert into full HTML and manually add paragraph breaks. It shouldn't have to be all or nothing. For instance, the blogging software Wordpress automatically converts line breaks to paragraph tags, while still allowing the addition of HTML for other things. Is there some reason that we couldn't have the same capability here? It would make commenting a lot less painful.

The 'Creative' Technology Behind The AP's News Registry from the magic-beans dept The Associated Press' attempt to DRM the news is a bad idea for a variety of reasons, but its claims for the news registry's capabilities seem pretty misguided, once you examine the technology behind it (the "magic DRM beans"). Ed Felten dug into the details of the registry's microformat, hNews, which the AP announced a few weeks earlier, and here's where it gets really interesting: the hNews rights field is based on the Creative Commons Rights Expression Language (ccREL). If the AP thinks it'll be able to build...

How to tell if you've been FReeping too longIf some, many or all of the following apply to you, you probably have been FReeping too long. You remember when you had to know basic HTML in order to form a decent post. You remember when the entire thread had to be 86’d in order to remove a single post. You remember when if someone forgot to close their italics, bold tags, the entire thread after that point was in bold or italics. You remember when if a disruptor made a mess of things during the wee hours of the night,...

HTML for Everyone is a complete HTML course and reference designed for both as a "teach-yourself" course, or to be used in conjunction with school, or home-school courses. It is also an exhaustive reference for all HTML programmers. For a very limited time, I would like to offer any Free Republic member interested in HTML, an opportunity to download HTML for Everyone, absolutely free. There is not obligation of any kind. Of course any comments, suggestions, or criticisms would be appreciated, by not required. If you decide you would like to try HTML for Everyone, for yourself, and or a...

I've been typing in all my HTML codes for years. But on some threads I notice people posting so quickly they can't possibly be typing all that code by hand. Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to download a page editor or something? How do others post so quickly? Thanks for any suggestions.....OK, fire away!
