Opinion: Did political correctness and backroom dealing doom the Democratic ticket from the start?
The Hill ^ | OCT 19, 2024 | Douglas MacKinnon

Posted on 10/19/2024 6:53:42 PM PDT by lasereye

The Democratic Party has a number of very impressive politicians and potential candidates within its ranks. That said, most Republicans, some Democrats and arguably millions of Americans don’t believe Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are two of them.

It didn’t have to be this way. The Democratic National Committee as well as the Democratic powerbrokers behind the scenes could have engineered a much stronger and much more electable ticket. They simply chose not to. Why? In part, because they were afraid of the optics and the potential blowback.

I wrote on this site multiple times over the past 18 months that President Biden would not be the Democratic nominee come November 2024 — something that seemed painfully obvious to those not in the tank for Biden or the Democratic machine.

There were several options to create a ticket that did not include Biden, Harris or Walz.

One of the most obvious options would have been to ask or convince Harris to resign, and then replace her with someone like California Gov. Gavin Newsom or another proven vote-getter.

But again, to pull off something that creative Democrats would have to travel on the road leading right up to Harris’s office. For understandable reasons centered around political correctness and the potential fallout from such a switch, no one on the Democratic side seemed anxious to ask Harris to step aside.

So here we are. “Identity politics” picked Harris. Backroom insiders then “convinced” Biden to withdraw from the race. Next, Harris and her backers used identity politics to select Walz as her running mate.

Could a stronger ticket have been created? Yes.

But we will never know. That said, because the Democrats may have outsmarted themselves; there are mounting signs that Trump is about to cruise to victory.

This is a revealing opinion piece, because Douglas Mackinnon is yet another Never Trumper Republican. He apparently sees the far-left Newsom as impressive and wishes he had been at the head of the ticket so he could defeat Trump.

This is an interesting sentence:

Next, Harris and her backers used identity politics to select Walz as her running mate.

I think he's saying a black or female should have been selected instead of Walz. Who is he thinking of? I would guess Whitmer who implemented totally bizarre Covid lockdown policies like preventing people from purchasing seeds or paint.

It is now clear what many of these Never Trumpers are. They are in fact nutjob leftists, even if some of them do prefer lower taxes and spending than the nutjob leftists in the Democrat party. Things important to conservatives are at best optional, and maybe even bad things to these Never Trumpers. Things like the Constitution, the rule of law, non-political law enforcement, non-politicized government agencies, a secure border, opposing terrorists and regimes that back them, opposing antisemitism, national security, public safety, freedom, etc.

Yeah they have such impressive people in the Democrat party - like Hell!

A bunch of lying leftist ignorant racist scumbags who hate or couldn’t care less about their own country.

Kamala is a perfect representative of that worthless hateful party.

Only Trump could have defeated Trump in this election.

I read that Biden insisted Harris replace him or he would go down fighting. Selecting anyone else would have been a refutiation of his presidency.

The transfer of campaign funds to someone else is sometimes mentioned, but really, the Democrats could have done anything they wanted with the money. The worst that could happen is a slap on the wrist in two or three years.

Why isn’t anybody saying that a crime might have been committed b Harris in extorting the Democrat nomination from Biden. Should there be an investigation, at least?

That said, because the Democrats may have outsmarted themselves; there are mounting signs that Trump is about to cruise to victory.

#1 - challenge Biden in the primaries.

#2 - leave Biden in the race (no debates or anything like that)

#3 - DNC could have engineered a stronger candidate in the backroom during the Convention. But they'll have to ask Oprah or Michelle to run instead.

I was never worried about that. She's the opposite of Hillary.

Zero ambition.

Michele Obama is a lazy racist leftist and she would have been a disaster.

My favorite of her “racism” stories is when a white lady dared ask her to get something off the top shelf at a supermarket.

Even this country wouldn’t elect that America hating creep.

Ah, but to replace her the dems would have to be 100% sure that they’d get Republican House members to vote for the replacement thus losing the #2 spot in the Presidential succession. Are there Republican House members dumb enough to do this? Perhaps. But the dems could never be sure, could they?

They faced the same problem with using the 25th to remove Brandon.

Yeah and they are going to destroy Kamala after the fact. They will utterly annihilate her.

Looked at from the reverse side, how could the Dems have anticipated that it would be this bad? On paper Kammy was a pretty sound candidate, in reality, not even a presentable empty shell. Crooked Joe had all the staff help he needed to just shut up and let them run things, only they couldn’t, and didn’t. The media backing was monolithic and unbreakable, and it methodically squandered first its credibility and then its palatability in a mindless storm of shrillness, hysteria, and AI-generated histrionics. Illegal immigration turned into a disastrous, unapologetic drive for revenge on an American middle class that party activists hate with all of their hearts. Debt skyrocketed. Inflation soared. War flourished. The Democrat candidate received not one vote and was selected by a cabal of party strategists who couldn’t strategize their way to a kindergarten story hour populated by grotesque Drag Queen monsters touted as the latest avatars of social progress. This all happened without a whimper of protest within the party itself and here they are wondering what went wrong. The answer is all of it.

When I need something from the top shelf, and a really tall man is nearby, I definitely ask for his help. I don’t care what color he is. Big Mike needs to understand that.

No, everything revolves around the economy “stupid”. One of the few things Bill Clinton accidentally tripped over with a slogan that resonates with voters because Bush No. 1 was a Statist on an economy with a downturn cycle. All about timing and a lot of luck. Trump got nailed by the lock-down (Spare me with your voting fraud BS, there were enough legitimate Biden voters to cover the fraud anyway).

Walz was chosen because he was a white man who (in their little minds) could help bring men back to the democrat party. Sorry, but a Governor who puts Tampax dispensers in the boy’s bathrooms is not a ‘man’ in the traditional sense.

And Kamala is more ‘Marxist’ than ‘woman of color’...

Lucky for the democrat party liberal journalists would support a woman for President if she had down’s syndrome, an IQ of 73 and a “D” by her name. They would say she was ‘sharp as a tack’....
