More than 1,000 high school football games have been played over the past month across multiple states. Utah, for example, launched youth sports more than five weeks ago. Alabama, Indiana and Tennessee commenced with high school football roughly four weeks ago. Alaska has been allowing games for more than two weeks. Many have been wondering whether these events would ultimately lead to an increase in COVID-19 cases being spread within communities.

The Rittman (Ohio) Indians aren't having a good year. They're 1-7. So when junior DE Nick Andre had to write a poem for his composition class, he chose as a subject the team's star wide receiver, who happens to be the son of the coach and brother of the offensive coordinator. The assignment was to write about something that makes you angry. Andre's poem, entitled "Stupid," accuses senior WR Blake Dennis of not being particularly good, but getting all the plays because of nepotism and his friendship with the quarterback. Dennis has committed to Akron next year (his father's alma...

Head coach Chuck Leonardis told the Pasadena Star News seven players had been given the organic acid by his staff after the students had asked about it. Athletic director Jerry DeSantis confirmed the school was “in the process of a coaching change”. Leonardis denied doing anything wrong. He said players were given “extremely low dosages” of Creatine, which is naturally synthesized in the human body for muscle use. He also said he...

The FFRF is a Wisconsin-based group whose purpose is to “protect the constitutional principle of separation between state and church.” They are demanding the school system launch an investigation into allegations that Coach Mariakis allowed local churches to prepare pre-game meals for his football team. After posting a message on players' lockers last week that was worded the same as a Nazi slogan, Maine South High School's top football coach was suspended for a game, officials said Wednesday. Dave Inserra, 39, will sit out Maine South's homecoming game against New Trier this Saturday, Principal David Claypool said. The one-game suspension comes after Inserra put up signs saying, "Work will set you free," on the lockers of the varsity team. The German version of that phrase -- "Arbeit macht frei" -- became infamous when used by the Nazis, who posted it at the entrance to Auschwitz...

Paul McCoy ran for 658 yards in a high school football game and, believe it or not, may not have set a national record with his feat. The total tops the National Federation of State High School Association's listed record of 619 yards set by Ronney Jenkins of Oxnard, Calif., in 1995. But high school records historian Doug Huff said Saturday the recognized record is 739 yards by John Giannantonio of Netcong, N.J., in 1950, against Mountain Lakes. McCoy piled up his yardage on just 29 carries - an average of 22.7 yards per attempt - and scored 10 touchdowns...

A federal judge ruled yesterday that the East Brunswick High School football coach can bend a knee and bow his head while his players recite pre-game prayers this season, ending a dispute that had mushroomed into a nationally recognized test of the separation of church and state. After nearly two hours of arguments, U.S. District Judge Dennis Cavanaugh sided with the coach, Marcus Borden, declaring "taking a knee" isn't praying and that the Middlesex County school district can't order him to stand still while his players perform a locker room ritual that spans decades. "Tradition plays a part, and the...
