The Ohio Department of Education said Bishop Sycamore High School is "a scam" and was a way for students to play football in hopes of increasing their chances of playing at the college level.

The department detailed its findings in a 41-page report released Friday. It began investigating the school in August at the request of Gov. Mike DeWine after concerns were raised over a blowout football game between Bishop Sycamore's team and Florida powerhouse IMG Academy.

IMG Academy beat the school 58-0....

...At one point, Bishop Sycamore said it was located at 3599 Chiller Lane, which is the location of an indoor sports training facility called Resolute Athletic Complex....

IMG took a lot of bad press for trouncing this 'team' - undeserved press, it would now seem

How do you fake a high school?

I guess I’ll have to go against longstanding Free Republic tradition and actually read the article.

I read it and still have no idea. I am from central Ohio, though and never heard of the school.

Using an address for an Easton Sports Complex. There are plenty of private schools in Central Ohio that would have welcomed a team or additional players. There was no need to create a fake team.

I don't know what their chances of playing college football were before the game, but they were Zero after the game.

There was no need to create a fake team.

If memory serves me correctly, I recall reading several stories after IMG crushed them. At least one report said the fake team had players that had already graduated from high school, some of whom were 19 and 20 years-old and using fake or barrowed birth certificates / names. Thus ineligible to play high school football.

Who was their coach?

Barry Switzer?

They liked running a wishbone offense?

Whoever was the coach better get out of town quick. I’m sure parents paid a lot of money not to lose at all, not alone 58-0

“How do you fake a High School (football team)”?

Yeah, especially in football-rabid Ohio!

OK. Now, get a load of this visionary genius in Navajo County, AZ, forming LLCs and declaring dozens of employees in order to scam the Paycheck Protection Program.

Suspicious. IMG Academy would have done their homework. Would had known that this fake school wasn’t legit. Something’s up.
