Arkansas beat Mississippi in 7 overtimes back in 2001. It was exhausting to even watch all of the game.

Sudden death overtime is the best way to go, imho.

I prefer the college & HS OT.

In the pro’s, sudden death relies on the simple flip of a coin, and the toe of a soccerboy keeker.

I don't know the exact stats but I remember seeing data that showed the team winning the coin flip rarely takes the ball and scores without the other team ever getting a possession.(I seem to remember the number being around 30%) I agree with the kicker comment but that is the same at the end of a close game.

For me, placing the ball at the defensive teams' 25 favors the offense too much. Placing the ball at the 50 or even the far 35 yard line would be more entertaining, imho.
