On this date in 1778, attainted Revolutionary War-era outlaw Josiah Phillips was hanged in Virginia. Contrary to Randolph’s recollection, the execution took place according to a regular jury verdict convicting Philips for stealing 28 hats and five pounds of twine — felony theft by the Bloody Code inherited from England. Even so, it was the Act of Attainder voted unanimously by the Virginia legislature that stuck in the popular memory, so much so that even the likes of Randolph, a lawyer by trade and later the first Attorney General of the independent United States, misstated* it as the proximate cause...

Former President Donald Trump again rejected the result of Arizona’s gubernatorial election Monday, calling for Republican Kari Lake to be declared the winner due to a supposed “criminal voting operation.” “Massive numbers of ‘BROKEN’ voting machines in Republican Districts on Election Day. Mechanics sent in to ‘FIX’ them made them worse,” Trump, 76, said in a Truth Social post without offering evidence. “Kari had to be taken to a Democrat area, which was working perfectly, to vote. Her opponent ran the Election.” Trump added it was “SO OBVIOUS” that Lake, 53, should not have lost to Democrat Katie Hobbs, Arizona’s...

Bowe Bergdahl is innocent. He has suffered enough in his life. Blame which ever service accepted him in after the Voast Guard rejected him. From a very young man he was raised in a tiny Idaho town. Although a warm , gentle Mama..his father was/is judgement & a zealot. Bowe was home schooled so his exposure to "0thers" was Nile. He left home to get away from his father's odd philosophy. Bowe has slight autism. please pardon..he's innocent.

Hi. My name is Chris. I'm posting to state how angry I am at Obama. He has failed to deliver. It proves my point that there's no difference between the democrats and republicans. Here are some of the reasons. Obama gave a temporary reprieve to just 5 million. All 12 million undocumented immigrants deserve full US citizenship. Obama has failed to stop Keystone and has done little for the environment and to stop global warming. He may as well be a republican. He's failed to ban guns. He's essentially for the entire NRA agenda. He's done nothing to stop the...

Hello freepers, I'm a registered Democrat, but I'd really rather not be. I would much rather sign myself onto some progressive party as I feel they would better represent me, my views and my country. However, if I were to do so in the current political environment I would be throwing my vote away and by not voting for the Democrat I'm helping the Republican candidate inch closer to a plurality. Similarly, I'm sure plenty of you guys would much rather have a strong Libertarian Party or some sort of Evangelical Party instead of being lumped in with the rest...

COVINGTON, La.- A Louisiana wildlife official said a "black panther" reported near an office building outside of Covington was actually a domesticated cat. Maria Davidson, who manages the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries large carnivore program, said the feline, which was photographed Wednesday and reported to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office as a panther, was nothing more than an ordinary house cat, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Friday. "A case of mistaken identity is not uncommon," Davidson said. "Size [of cats)] can be somewhat difficult to determine ... at a distance or with a picture." Experts said the...

At times I find myself out of sync with my fellow Americans. All during the 1980s I was wondering what the heck was up with disco. Today my disconnect concerns social security. Why the heck do so many Americans seem to hate the wisest program our government has ever developed, a program that we all benefit from in a direct and considerable manner? And why do people think it is a “ponzi scheme,” on the verge of “bankruptcy,” or worse, a form of “socialism” that would offend the founding fathers? ...In rough numbers, every paycheck below a cumulative total of...

Well, I'm new here. A long time reader and admirerer of some of the insight here. I'm definitely a Republican, although I must confess that I'm probably more moderate than many regulars here. That said, I'm no "DU" person. Yes, I've been informed about what that means. :) So here I be, hopefully able to contribute here and there as I have plenty of insight to share. I guess that's it. Here's hoping I'm not zotted away. J

W. Cleon Skousen's book "The Five Thousand Year Leap" has been reissued, and after an endorsement from Glenn Beck, it was even briefly the No. 1 best-seller at Amazon.com. This is bad news for religious conservatism. Skousen's book is a slipshod mixture of tendentious history, bad theology and paranoid politics in the John Birch Society mold. It ought to be treated as a curiosity of the pre-Reagan right, a fantasy world where communist agents such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Dwight D. Eisenhower worked to undermine America.... The revival of Skousen-esque thinking via Glenn Beck's teary-eyed presentations on the...

Sorry if I'm not allowed to post this sort of thread, but I'd rather ask direct questions than interpret answers to other questions an apply them to my own. I'm from the UK and for school work over the holidays I've got to find and explain/counter arguments for and against a political issue from another country, and I know that healthcare reform is a big one in America at the moment so I picked the easy one. I've had good experiences with our NHS, and without it I would either be dead or my family would be deeply in debt...

Dear Glenn Beck, I recently read the free Kindle sample of Broke, your latest effort to contribute to the pubic dialogue regarding the direction of our nation. Your advice is timely and necessary, if somewhat obvious. You have successfully established, with historical examples, that debt is bad, that having money is preferable to not having money, and moreover, that it really sucks that our country no longer has any money. With these three points I stand behind you one hundred percent, even if I wasn't quite willing to buy the remaining ninety-five percent of your book. As you advise your...

Must see documentary / movie out... I saw it today. I had to applaud. (As did the rest of the audience.) Inside Job. The subject is the root cause of the current collapse of the economy, and what has been/is being done to resolve it. http://www.sonyclassics.com/insidejob/site/ There are no actors in this film, but you will recognize almost everyone. The power of this film is in the clear presentation of public statements of a large number of the most powerful people in the world today in the context of their motivations and rewards. I want to hear Limbaugh, Palin and...

Barack Hussein Obama rules America by manipulating a deep seated shame pattern in all people. Those who let themselves be cast into the image of victims or villains, are fair game for Obama the deceiver. Obama pits class against class, race against race, religion against religion, party against party. Obama is the great divider and his hate, lies and heavy handed tyranny will destroy America unless we wake up. Some people are fed up with Obama's never ending, race baiting and hate filled slander hurled against all who oppose him.. Obama's America is so full of shame that we shake...

Report: Al-Shehri warns against "the greater state of Israel." Al-Qaida is ready to exploit a war "by the Jews against Iran," the Sunni group's second-in-command in Yemen, Saeed al-Shehri, said in an audio message this month, according to the Daily Beast. The mostly Shi'ite nation of Iran is an enemy to Al-Qaida, and al-Shehri predicted that after Israel attacked Iranian nuclear installations, Iran would blame Saudi Arabia - which reports say may let Israel fly through its airspace to attack Iran - and use the opportunity to seize the holy cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
