Video LinkMy daughter and I were listening to a bunch of varying music on this pretty afternoon while out and about. Some Beatles thrown in, too, as we are both fans. I was reminded of this video I came across a few months ago. I have just about zero musical ability, but I enjoy music hugely, and I also enjoy watching about music talk. I find this video fun and interesting.

Calling all Freeper guitarists. I am looking into buying a beginner's guitar for myself. I am wanting to spend around $200. I am only interested in an acoustic guitar at this time. My musical tastes range from classic rock, old school country, to some blues. I have sort of narrowed down my choices to a couple of guitars, the Yamaha FG800 (https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FG800?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrOjvwfWx1wIVSY1-Ch2w3wK8EAAYASAAEgL1h_D_BwE) and the Ibanez AW50 OPN (https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AW54OPN?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj-Tht_Wx1wIVw19-Ch2vHwtwEAAYASAAEgLViPD_BwE). I was wondering if any of y'all had any experience with either of those and could possibly make a recommendation, or possibly a suggestion for something else. Any and all advice is...

The convention couldn’t sound less rock-and-roll — the National Association of Music Merchants Show. But when the doors open at the Anaheim Convention Center, people stream in to scour rows of Fenders, Les Pauls and the oddball, custom-built creations such as the 5-foot-4-inch mermaid guitar crafted of 15 kinds of wood. Standing in the center of the biggest, six-string candy store in the United States, you can almost believe all is well within the guitar world. Except if, like George Gruhn, you know better. The 71-year-old Nashville dealer has sold guitars to Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Paul McCartney and Taylor...

This is one of my all-time favorite guitar songs by Ed Gerhard...perfect for a holiday morning. The story behind Gerard's "House of Guitars" CD is fascinating. The album was recorded using an assortment of cheap pawnshop-style guitars. Gerhard is known for his gorgeous tone, and uses these unusual textures for maximum musical impact. "Promised Land" epitomizes what this genius can do.

This may get pulled immediately or not. In my smokey BBQ and excellent evening tonight the question came up... "Where do we Relocate the United Nations to" First I thought that GITMO was a perfect place but my non Military friends came up with UAE and Guitar (sounds like Cutter) Personally now I think that if they think that they are as good as they think they are and can do the miracles that they say they can do ... Central Africa is where they should be. Why are they located in one of the Richest City's in the World...

Groundbreaking guitarist and vocalist Lonnie Mack, known as one of rock’s first true guitar heroes, died on April 21, 2016 of natural causes at Centennial Medical Center near his home in Smithville, Tennessee. His early instrumental recordings – among them Wham! and Memphis -- influenced many of rock's greatest players, including Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and especially Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was 74. Rolling Stone called him “a pioneer in rock guitar soloing.” Guitar World said, “Mack attacked the strings with fast, aggressive single-string phrasing and a seamless rhythm style that significantly raised the guitar virtuoso...

My son is 16 and is a fairly good musician. He started with clarinet, then moved to Sax and is really good at sax. From that experience, he is very good at reading music and music theory. For the past couple of years he has also been investing in the guitar and is now at the point that he is not benefiting from his high school program. We have been sending him to private tutors and he is now studying Satriani, Yes, Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen's arpeggios from hell, and to my untrained ear doing very well. The boy gets...

Montgomery spoke with Channel 2 news about the attack. "I had just sat down to play my guitar near the ocean when I heard screams from down the road," he explained, nonchalantly. "He jumped on the bench yelling at me and trying to stab me so I grabbed my guitar and hit him over the head with it. "He was so stunned and didn't know what to do with himself and then started running away." Two police volunteers then shot and killed the terrorist. Ed Dvir, from Philadelphia, read about Montgomery's quick reaction to an approaching terrorist and set up...

"Hi friends, kc here. My longtime friend and collaborator Gary Richrath passed away earlier today. I feel so sad. Gary was both a unique guitarist and songwriter, and the embodiment of the tough guy with a heart of gold. I learned most of what I know about being in a rock band from Gary Richrath. The entire REO Family mourns his death and shares in the grief of his family, friends, and fans. These words do not come close to expressing the depth of emotions I am feeling at this time...kc"

When we talk of guitar playing it is often in the text of rock and roll and what immediately comes to mind for most folks is the driving and powerful popular classics of Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and others. Because guitar playing and rock music most always conjure up the hits that made us stomp our feet and dance. A former hard rocker and “party ‘til you puke” concert consumer myself, I don’t quarrel with any of the hard rockers getting their due. But, just for fun on a slow Saturday night I’d like to offer up a couple of...
  • Ted Nugent to DC Political Class: Prove Trump a liar or shut up

Ted Nugent is letting the political class have it — and he’s firing both barrels! In a column responding to criticism of Donald Trump’s comments on illegal immigration, the hard-charging rocker lampooned the Washington political establishment as being out-of-touch political insiders — and challenged all of them to prove Trump wrong. With the colorful language he is known for, Nugent ripped into the political class in D.C., including former Bush administration press secretary Ari Fleisher, for their “politically correct” outrage over Trump’s comments that illegal immigration is flooding America with drug-runners, rapists, and criminals. Celebrating America’s freedom nearly cost Lane Pittman his. The 22-year-old University of North Florida senior was issued a citation on July 4 for breaching the peace following a raucous guitar rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and a verse of Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold.” Pittman said, however, he was nearly arrested and sent to jail for the night. “I’m going from this emotional high, and then all of a sudden I just go to this extreme low of being in the back of a police car,” Pittman told Fox News. “I can’t tell you how many times they told me I would...
