Celebrating Americas freedom nearly cost Lane Pittman his.
The 22-year-old University of North Florida senior was issued a citation on July 4 for breaching the peace following a raucous guitar rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner and a verse of Ted Nugents Stranglehold.
Pittman said, however, he was nearly arrested and sent to jail for the night.
Im going from this emotional high, and then all of a sudden I just go to this extreme low of being in the back of a police car, Pittman told Fox News.
I cant tell you how many times they told me I would have to go downtown, do an overnight at jail, get mugshots
- Lane Pittman
Armed with a borrowed amplifier, a guitar made by his dad and a distortion pedal his friend built, Pittman set up to play the National Anthem during Neptune Beachs annual Independence Day celebration. An enthusiastic crowd quickly gathered.

Watch the Video.
Disturbing the peace... On the Fourth of July... With that little amp... I don’t think so. He’s got great tone.
Yeah especially since all his equipment was homemade.
Cops could have said move back to the building to get the crowd out of the street, and gone on about their day.
In a college town during daylight? Should have shot the cretin! Next thing you know, he’ll be hanging out a Confederate flag and riding a motorcycle.
When a rotund donut-eater with a badge and boots tells you to stop playing the national anthem, you need to comply. This is America!
If he was inciting a riot by playing then why did they wait until he finished out of respect?...lol
Sorry there is the article.
The only reason I said watch the video, was so people could see the size of the crowd that gathered.
I think they would have had a riot if they had interrupted the National Anthem.
I love Hendrix, thats the funniest thing I have read in awhile. I agree too, I would like to check the guy out but I cant sit through the ad.
You can have sex on the street in San Francisco during a gay pride parade but you can’t play a guitar solo of the national anthem.
I remember when America didn’t have nonsense like arresting a guy like this.
This country is toast.
I would disagree if I thought you were wrong.
Not bad at all, and with homemade and used/cut-rate equipment. As for the po-po.............
I remember when Police were someone to call for help.
Now I have speed dial numbers for help to protect me from the Police.
KMA Hope and Change
I think I was targeted for a robbery the other night (for money I didn’t have, lol).
Anyways, they made several turns with me. I led them into a cul-de-sac and turned the tables on them. They took off. With a bit of luck, I tracked the vehicle down minutes later and got the license plate.
I also have snapshots from the video showing them following me out of a gas station (I had no idea until I saw the video).
All backed up and stored. I’ll eventually speak with a police officer on the street in person and give him the license. I didn’t file an official report yet since it only gives your info out to a potential perp.
That’s the kind of stuff I’d like to see the police focusing their energy and time on.
Was that in CA by chance? Happens to my mother a bit. The police told her she has to call 911 at the time she’s being followed otherwise they can’t do anything.
Nah, it was the Midwest. By the time I turned into the cul-de-sac, the game was already afoot. If I had called 911, I wouldn’t have had a license plate nor would the cops have gotten there even close. I was preparing myself mentally to defend myself. Never got to that point, fortunately.
Then, I thought it was just a cool interpretation, but I can easily see someone else seeing it as disrespectful.
