Glenn Haydel, uncle of former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial, pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing $550,000 from the Regional Transit Authority, becoming the first member of Morial's inner circle to cooperate with the federal government's sprawling probe of city contracts awarded during his eight-year tenure. Haydel, who received a lucrative contract to manage the RTA during Morial's two terms at City Hall, admitted in federal court to defrauding a federally financed program and agreed to return the money he illegally diverted. He also agreed to cooperate with the government in its ongoing probe of public corruption.
