In recent years, there has been an explosion of academic work declaring everything from meritocracy to math to be racist or vehicles of white dominance. Offering statistical analysis to support such claims is itself problematic since statistics have also been declared racist. Now however Law professor Mathilde Cohen of the University of Connecticut has found an untapped area of white dominance. In a talk at Sciences Po Paris and the University of Nanterre, Cohen explained how “French eating habits reinforced the ‘dominance’ of white people over ethnic minorities.”Presumably, the French themselves are allowed to continue to eat their own food...

France's biggest maker of canned vegetables, Bonduelle, has been ordered to pay €800 ($1320) to a disgusted customer, who tipped the contents of one of its products into her frying pan - and a dead mouse plopped out. The customer involved, a woman preparing a family meal in February 2002, took the company to court after it tried to limit its compensation to another can of food, a recipe book and a voucher to the value of the fry-pan, court officials said. The firm argued that the woman and her family suffered no ill-effects from the nasty surprise. But a...

NEW YORK (AP) - One of Manhattan's premier French restaurants, Lespinasse, announced it would close next week because of the economic and political climate. The 12-year-old restaurant in the midtown St. Regis Hotel was favored for its sumptuous beige and gold antique decor and prize-winning wine list and cuisine. Lespinasse was one of six Manhattan restaurants with a four-star rating from The New York Times. A statement from the owners said the current economic and world political climate made staying open unprofitable. The restaurant will close April 19. Guenter H. Richter, managing director of the St. Regis, said, "We carried...
  • No more French food for Bush

A White House staff said recently that Bush never really liked French food. Ironically, Jacques Chirac loves New York and MacDonald hamburgers. Just the same, from day one, America and France have had stark differences about what to do with Saddam Hussein. France has always been in favor of disarmament, but was opposed to any use of force against Iraq because perhaps the French felt they could convince Saddam, through peaceful and diplomatic means, to give up the weapons of mass destruction. But for the US, Saddam is "the weapon of mass destruction," and even the Palestinians accept this as...
