ROGER Federer was true to his word, shrugging off Andy Murray's ambitious challenge last night to enhance a staggering grand slam record with a glorious Australian Open victory. Federer's imperious 6-3 6-4 7-6 (13-11) defeat of Murray brought his 16th major title. But he was made to sweat through a dramatic third-set tiebreak, which saw Murray hold five set points and Federer three match points before the contest ended dramatically after 161 minutes. "I'm over the moon," Federer said. "I've played some of the best tennis of my life. This is a special moment in my life. It's also very...

NEW YORK – Normally so cool, so consistent, so in control of his emotions and his matches, Roger Federer let the U.S. Open championship slip from his grasp. Two points from victory against inexperienced, unheralded Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina, two points from a sixth consecutive title at Flushing Meadows and a record-extending 16th Grand Slam overall, Federer, quite simply, fell apart Monday.

Federer Stands Alone By Liz Clarke Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, July 5, 2009; 5:08 PM WIMBLEDON, England, July 5 -- It was a day for making history. Roger Federer, who was reduced to tears after losing last year's Wimbledon final, exulted on the same patch of Centre Court Sunday after winning his 15th Grand Slam title -- one that breaks his tie with Pete Sampras for the most career majors. Federer prevailed in the longest Grand Slam final in men's history, turning back a determined challenge by American Andy Roddick, 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. With the...

Roger Federer was left shaken yesterday when a crazed intruder raced on to the court and brandished a flag in his face while attempting to put a cap on his head at the start of the second set of the French Open men's final. The man leapt over the barriers at the side of the court and ran straight for Federer, with security officials nowhere to be seen. As security finally arrived, the intruder turned around and jumped over the net before being rugby-tackled and escorted away. You Tube video of the incident and tackle by security at link:

Undeterred by an on-court intruder, Federer beat surprise finalist Soderling 6-1, 7-6 (1), 6-4 on Sunday to complete a career Grand Slam and win his 14th major title, matching Sampras' record. On his fourth try at Roland Garros, Federer became the sixth man to win all four Grand Slam championships. When the stylish Swiss hit a service winner on championship point, he fell on his knees to the clay that had vexed him for so long, screamed and briefly buried his face in his hands. He was teary by the time he met Soderling at the net, and fans gave...

Andy Murray might be a big fan of American comedian Will Ferrell, but I doubt he enjoyed Roger Federer’s version of Old School today in New York. Federer looked every bit the champion of years past today as he thrashed his younger opponent 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 to capture his 5th US Open title.

It is with a tinge of sadness that I tell you, the Reign of Roger is over. Never content with his domain as perpetual No. 2 to the would-be Greatest Ever, Rafael Nadal spent the past three years building a siege mound to the Federer Fortress. And in one historic summer it was fait accompli, trouncing Federer for the French Open title in June, wresting the Swiss man's beloved estate from him at Wimbledon in July and then garnering Olympic gold and glory last week in Beijing, all on three different surfaces. This was no snipe and hope but rather...

What Every American Needs to Know about the Qur’anPublished: February 22, 2008 A History of Islam and the United States – Excerpt FourWilliam J. Federer QUR’AN: CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE Encyclopedia Britannica stated of Mohammed: The gospel was known to him chiefly through apocryphal and heretical sources. (15:648) In Mohammed’s day, there were complicated Christian schisms, mostly over the nature of Christ. Orthodox Christianity repeatedly confirmed the doctrine of Jesus’ nature being the only-begotten Son “of one substance with the Father” at the First Council of Nicea, 325 AD; First Council of Constantinople, 381 AD; Council of Ephesus, 431 AD; Council of Chalcedon, 451 AD; Second Council...

Around the ESPN.com watercooler, it's a debate that sees more consternation than "Tastes great" versus "Less filling": Who is the more dominant performer, Tiger Woods or Roger Federer? Each stated his case with another stunning victory on Sunday, as Woods claimed the Buick Invitational for his seventh consecutive PGA Tour victory and Federer notched the Australian Open for his third straight Grand Slam title. If anything, the two players only added fuel to the fire with their most recent wins. Golf editor Jason Sobel and frequent tennis contributor Matt Wilansky debate which player is the most dominant athlete in this...

LONDON (Reuters) - Roger Federer claimed his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title on Sunday, beating Spain's Rafael Nadal 6-0 7-6 6-7 6-3 on Center Court. Playing in his first Wimbledon final Nadal was blown off court in a 24-minute opening set but from then on he gave the Swiss maestro an uncomfortable afternoon in breezy conditions. Nadal served for the second set but failed to close it out and Federer hit back to take a tiebreak 7-5. Federer conceded his first set of the tournament as Nadal roared back to snatch the third set on a tiebreak. The top seed broke...

The Missouri 3rd Congressional District seat has been held by Richard Gephardt since I was in High School ~25 years ago. Now we have D-Russ Carnahan, son of the late Missouri Governor, and former US Senator, Mel and Jean Carnahan, a sitting state representative, running gainst R-Bill Federer. Bill has run against Gephardt before and lost. Has the Republican party given up on this seat? I see nothing more than the usual campaign signs and a few bumper stickers in the area. The campaign is sending out eMails at the rate of about 1 every 2 weeks by my estimation,...

Homosexuals come out of the closet, Christians go in!If sixteen Democrats in the House of Representatives have their way, General Boykin will be censured and reassigned for sharing his faith. While silent about the Muslim "spy" chaplain at Guantanamo Bay, Democrat Reps. Dennis Kucinich (D OH), Sheila Jackson Lee (D TX) and Maxine Waters (D CA) introduced House Resolution 419, calling for, in essence, the establishment of a new military policy of "Don't Ask - Don't Tell" your faith if you are Christian. Suffering intolerance in the name of tolerance Posted: October 31, 20031:00 a.m. Eastern By William J. Federer© 2003 WorldNetDaily.com In Islamic countries, there is an intolerance toward Judeo-Christian expression. Public execution may be one's fate for openly sharing faith in Christ. A "fatwah" – a call by Islamist leaders for one's death – may be made against one accused of opposing Allah. In the United States, there is an intolerance toward Judeo-Christian expression. Lt. General William G. "Jerry" Boykin is facing near public execution for sharing his faith in Christ. Indeed, the politically correct, left-leaning media, along with several Democrat presidential candidates,...

Even before the rise of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich, the way for the gruesome Nazi Holocaust of human extermination and cruel butchery was being prepared in the 1930 German Weimar Republic through the medical establishment and philosophical elite's adoption of the "quality of life" concept in place of the "sanctity of life." The Nuremberg trials, exposing the horrible Nazi war crimes, revealed that Germany's trend toward atrocity began with their progressive embrace of the Hegelian doctrine of "rational utility," where an individual's worth is in relation to their contribution to the state, rather than determined in light of traditional moral,...
