This beat the previous record by a dozen or two.</p> <p>Even more impressive, yesterday was the busiest day in the history of Free Republic as measured by total articles + replies, with a whopping 31,153. The previous record was somewhat below 30,000.</p> <p>Signups had their 8th highest day ever, behind 7 consecutive days after the 2000 elections.</p>

<p>It is imperative during this time period that no one and I mean no one post any information they have about our military. There have been several postings tonight giving information about bases near where they live -- please do not discuss your local bases on the open forum.</p> <p>Our men and women of the Armed Forces are in harm's way enough without our telling people what is going on in our areas. There have been too many duplicate threads lately. A search is easy to do, but is not 100% foolproof, nonetheless, it is very effective. The Free Republic search feature only looks at words in the title (words from within the article will not work). That is why it is imperative to use the original title. I'm new to FR although I have lurked for a couple of years. Now that I have taken the plunge I have a few questions if you folks don't mind. When and how do you ping? I have seen a few articles posted only to have the admin. mod. change them (article was/wasn't excerpted, etc.). What are the rules regarding this? I also remember something about some media outlets not allowing their articles to be posted on FR (or something like that). How do I find out which media outlets they are? Wow...out of millions of websites, we are #378 on the planet today. Fellow Freepers, One of my hobbies is tracking the number of distinct posters on FR. I keep a spreadsheet of the average numbers of posters per week. I noticed that last week was the second highest average since 11/27/00. I hope FR continues to grow! Could someone give me some simple advice in a 1-2-3 format on how to post a picture? I have an original jpeg picture in a file on my hard drive (C: Drive) but cannot seem to get it posted in the forum (even when I use the html.) Any simple step-by-step help on how I can get this picture from point "A" (My C: drive) to Point "B" (a reply to a post) will be appreciated. WOW! When I wrote down the "img src=" html...and previewed this post the little image box with a x in it appeared...so why ...

<p>Pretty much everyone knows that things are about to get quite busy. Whenever this happens, people make suggestions such as "don't post graphics, so as to help Free Republic handle the traffic".</p> <p>As such, NOT posting graphics helps Free Republic handle the load not at all. It does not take much bandwidth, at all, for the server to spit out that small amount of text.</p>

I have been gone due to some major virus destruction to my computer, bought a new system, and now I can't remember the HTML commands, darnit! Any help would be much appreciated.
