Newbie questions

Posted on 03/18/2003 11:17:13 AM PST by Oorang

I'm new to FR although I have lurked for a couple of years. Now that I have taken the plunge I have a few questions if you folks don't mind.

When and how do you ping?

I have seen a few articles posted only to have the admin. mod. change them (article was/wasn't excerpted, etc.). What are the rules regarding this?

I also remember something about some media outlets not allowing their articles to be posted on FR (or something like that). How do I find out which media outlets they are? Don't want to get in trouble! Newbies seem to sometimes have to almost go through a "hazing" here so the last thing I want to do is leave myself wide open! I have the HTML sandbox bookmarked but haven't found info regarding the above issues. Thanks much.

"Hazing" is not a hugh problem here. I'm series!

Have some cheese but watch the biting moose. Take a shower and have fun!

Thanks. Aready had my shower, make my own cheese so I know the terrorists haven't contaminated it and regularly chase the elk off my back pasture. No need to worry about the moose...yet.

Before you take the plunge:

1. Get your laundry caught up.

2. Buy paper plates

3. Fill your freezer with micro dinners

4. Notify your relatives if your connection will always make your phone be "busy". This will saves trips by relatives to check whether you are alive or not.

Good Luck!

Nixay when posting full articles from Washington Post and LA Post. Post only an excerpt then provide the link to the rest of the article. This rule is the result of a litigation agreement.

Nah...only when you screw up, and we are all subject to openly harsh peer criticism then.

You won't.

Welcome aboard.

Regards,
R

Laundry - did it today
Paper plates - full supply
Two freezers full of home grown beef, husband got an elk and salmon from Alaska. Now if I can get him to take over feeding the chickens and getting the eggs for the next couple of weeks and I'm set to go!

Thanks much. Thought it had something to do with some litigation and I don't want to go there.
Any input on what the pinging is?

Pinging is the sound that immediately preceeds Pong.

All hail the Benevolent All Knowing Pong!

Pinging is the act of sending out notice to a group, or a single individual, that a post of mutual interest has occurred.
