Fabio Fognini has been kicked out of the US Open after verbally abusing a female umpire during his first round singles match. The Italian was due to play in the third round of the doubles but he has been withdrawn from that contest and provisionally suspended from competition. Fognini had already been handed a series of fines totalling £18,500 after he lost his temper during a loss to fellow countryman Stefano Travaglia.
