A militant group fighting for an independent Basque homeland, Eta has been blamed for more than 820 deaths during its campaign in Spain. "The material was stored in secure conditions which indicates the work of professionals," local police chief Helder Barros said. Several of the explosives were...

LONDON – Agents for Britain's MI5 intelligence service have discovered that Muslim doctors trained at some of Britain's leading teaching hospitals have returned to their own countries to fit surgical implants filled with explosives, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin. Women suicide bombers recruited by al-Qaida are known to have had the explosives inserted in their breasts under techniques similar to breast enhancing surgery. The lethal explosives – usually PETN (pentaerythritol Tetrabitrate) – are inserted during the operation inside the plastic shapes. The breast is then sewn up. Similar surgery has been performed on male suicide bombers....

But what would be an intolerable ride for most is just something Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Paul N. Krist, a dog handler for 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, and his dog, Max, have accepted as part of the job. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Paul N. If luck is the battlefield’s final arbiter — the wild card that can trump fitness, training, teamwork, equipment, character and skill — then Lance Cpl. Ryan T. Mathison experienced its purest and most welcome form. On a Marine foot patrol here through the predawn chill of Friday morning, he stepped on a pressure-plate rigged to roughly 25 pounds of explosives. The device, enough to destroy a pickup truck or tear apart several men, was buried beneath him in the dusty soil. It did not explode. Lance Corporal Mathison’s weight triggered the detonation of one of the booby trap’s two blasting...

The trial of a Jewish settler charged with two murders and a string of other attacks has begun in Jerusalem. Yaakov Teitel, an American immigrant who lives in the West Bank, faces 14 charges, including two counts of murder and three of attempted murder. Police called him a "Jewish terrorist" when he was arrested in October. His lawyer says he is mentally disturbed. He refused to stand before the court or make statements, saying only "the Lord is king," Israeli media reported. Relatives of Mr Teitel's alleged victims were present in court, Israeli media reported. "My brother is gone, but...

In an incident eerily similar to the Christmas Day crotch- bomb plot, airport guards in Somalia nabbed a suspected terrorist last month trying to smuggle a syringe, acid and more than 2 pounds of explosive powder aboard a Dubai-bound flight, authorities revealed yesterday. The Somali terrorist was carrying more than 13 times the amount of explosives that al Qaeda-linked operative Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was packing in his undies in his failed attempt to blow up a jet over Detroit. "We don't know whether [the November suspect is] linked with al Qaeda or other foreign organizations, but his actions were the...

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Officials say a Somali national tried to board a commercial airliner in Mogadishu last month with powdered chemicals, liquid and a syringe that together could have caused an explosion. The hallmarks bear chilling similarities to the terrorist plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner. Police spokesman Abdulahi Hassan Barise says the suspect was arrested before the Nov. 13 Daallo Airlines flight departed. It was scheduled to travel from Mogadishu to the northern Somali city of Hargeisa, then to Djibouti and Dubai.

Call them Jihad Jockeys. These are the explosives-packed underpants worn by Umar Farouk Adbulmutallab (here in a mug shot released yesterday by the US Marshals Service) when he tried to bring down a flight over Detroit - and managed only to set his crotch on fire. The frighty whities came with a special pouch sewn by al Qaeda's finest seamstresses. In it was a condom packed with 80 grams of PETN, a compound that's a key ingredient in the plastic explosive Semtex. The suicide bomber tried to set it off by using a hypodermic needle to inject it with a...

On August 28, the Saudi Arabian deputy minister of interior, Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, survived a bombing attack launched by an al Qaeda cell based in Yemen, Saudi Arabia's southern neighbor. Abdullah Hassan al Asiri, the would-be assassin, a Saudi who had fled to Yemen, posed as a militant willing to surrender personally to Prince Nayef. Because he leads Saudi Arabia's counterterrorism efforts against al Qaeda, the prince is a key target for the terrorist group. Al Asiri concealed the bomb, made of PETN, in his underwear, according to the official Saudi investigation. PETN is a plastic explosive that is...

Bombs on the plane! I’ve been reading discussions concerning the type of explosives terrorists like Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab could bring onto an airliner. Investigators have indicated it was a powder/liquid mix that failed to ignite. The Jawa Report speculates; directing us to a video on making a small, but powerful improvised explosive device. I’m no explosive expert, but the video Jawa Report posted earlier today is an eye opener. Hat tip to Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit who also notes al-Qaida had a big press conference and rally four days ago in a remote area of Yemen where they declared...

Explosive on Flight 253 Is Among Most Powerful By KENNETH CHANG December 27, 2009 Sewn into the underwear of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was a powerful plastic explosive, the authorities say. Had Mr. Abdulmutallab, sitting in seat 19A of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Friday from Amsterdam to Detroit, been able to set off the explosive, it might have blown a hole in the side of the airplane and caused it to crash, experts believe. Mr. Abdulmutallab, 23, a Nigerian citizen, was charged in a federal criminal complaint on Saturday with the willful attempt to destroy an aircraft with an explosive...

A "miracle on Christmas Day" prevented nearly 300 people from being killed by a terrorist attack aboard a transcontintental flight, but failure to connect the dots could be the United States' Achilles heel, the top senator on the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee said Sunday. Sen. Joe Lieberman said a lack of communication was the key factor behind the terrorists' success on on Sept. 11, 2001, and could be the reason for the failure to thwart a future attack. The independent Connecticut senator said accused bomber Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian man charged with trying to set...
