We've done a lot of polling recently (I took this poll) on how people get their news and what sources they most trust. We wanted to find out more about why the Internet is in rapid ascendance, while newspapers are on the media endangered species list. (snip) When it comes to newspapers and how they have been impacted by the Internet, there is a consistent and significant ideological factor. Conservatives and Republicans don't like or trust newspapers, and Independents are not big fans either. However, if all Americans were liberals or Democrats, you would be buying newspaper stock.

The planet Mars conjures images of red rocks and arid, dusty plains, but as NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander showed last year, it snows on Mars. The stationary robot observed ice crystals falling to the martian surface near the end of its 5-month mission in the arctic Vastitas Borealis plains last year. Today, scientists detail this finding and others in a set of four papers in the journal Science. The research could help shed light on the past and present action of water on the martian surface and characterize the potential habitability of the red planet. Phoenix landed on the red...

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer, and the bill for all tencomes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would gosomething like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every dayand seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one...

2/17/2006 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- The Air Force Uniform Board announced Feb. 6 that the Good Conduct Medal will no longer be awarded. The Air Force director of Airman development and sustainment recently explained the reasons behind this decision. "The quality of our enlisted personnel today is so high, we expect good conduct from our Airmen," said Brig. Gen Robert R. Allardice. "It begged the question, ‘Why do we have a Good Conduct Medal?’" "Having a medal for good conduct is almost to say we don't expect Airmen to do well, but if they're good we will give them a...

Kerry Ridicules Bush on Terrorism Remark 16 minutes ago By TOM RAUM and NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writers FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - President Bush and Sen. John Kerry stayed on the offensive in swing states Sunday as the presidential race entered its final full week. In a television interview, Bush said it is "up in the air" whether the nation can ever be fully safe from another terror attack and suggested terrorists may still be contemplating ways to disrupt the election. Kerry ridiculed Bush's statement, suggesting it echoed an earlier assertion — later withdrawn — by the president that the...

Edwards pockets American dream By David R. Guarino Wednesday, July 7, 2004 John Edwards talks a lot about the ``two Americas,'' railing against a government that rewards the rich and shackles the poor. He should know. Edwards has been on the winning side of that societal equation for almost 30 years. He pulled in verdicts and settlements worth some $150 million - a large chunk of which he pocketed - and recently sold his Washington home to the government of Hungary for $3 million. Not bad for a millworker's son. Financial disclosure forms released by Edwards show he took in...
