GM is recalling nearly 600,000 SUVs and trucks in the United States due to engine issues, it announced Tuesday. The Detroit automaker is recalling 2021 through 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with 6.2L V8 gas engines. Photo at link. A Southwest Airlines flight from New Orleans to Orlando made an emergency landing Saturday morning in Pensacola after a mid-air malfunction sidelined the plane’s primary engine. Federal investigators are now trying to determine the cause of what a Southwest spokesperson described as an “mechanical issue with the number one engine.”

There have been three major ethanol producers that have declared bankruptcy in the past 6 months (VeraSun, Panda Energy and White Energy) as well as several smaller ones. The problem is the high cost of manufacture, especially high corn prices.... The pressure is on Congress to force distributors to blend to 15% to solve the problem government caused in the first place. Lost in all of this, is it would void the warranties of millions of cars in the US. But the problem is far worse for the marine industry. Even 10% ethanol is causing severe problems to fuel systems....
