A judge is scheduled Monday to consider former Chicago-area police sergeant Drew Peterson's motion to vacate his 2012 conviction in the murder of his third wife. Officials have said Peterson will not attend the hearing and it is not known if Will County Judge Edward Burmila will make an immediate decision on the motion. The judge has appointed an attorney and an investigator to assist Peterson and experts have said that such an investigation could take months to complete. Convicted wife-killer Drew Peterson reportedly was jumped by another inmate at an Indiana prison -- only about a month after the Illinois ex-cop moved to the new facility for security. The inmate, who was not identified, attacked Peterson with a food tray on March 29 in a dining area of the maximum-security federal facility in Terre Haute, a source told The Chicago Tribune. Peterson wasn’t seriously hurt and was separated from the prison's general population afterwards.

The charges allege that between September 2013 and December 2014, Peterson plotted to hire a hit man to kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow, the prosecutor who led the 2012 trial that resulted in Peterson being convicted of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Peterson, who is currently incarcerated at the Menard Correctional Center, made an initial appearance on the charges Monday at the Randolph County Courthouse. Yet the once famously jocular ex-Illinois police officer screamed out his innocence before he was sentenced to 38 years in prison for his third wife's death. The outburst Thursday suggested reality may be settling in for Peterson, who for years casually dismissed suggestions he killed Kathleen Savio in 2004, or that he was behind the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson. Savio's death was initially ruled an accident. But after Stacy Peterson disappeared, authorities took another look and reclassified Savio's death as a homicide.

Working with new information in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, authorities are set to dig in search of her body Saturday in an area east of Peoria, sources said. Illinois State Police confirmed Saturday that they are currently following a lead in rural central Illinois regarding Peterson’s disappearance and have set up a media staging at a location near Peoria, according to an ISP release. The ISP Investigation team that has been investigating the disappearance and possible homicide of Stacy Peterson is aware of the situation and at the scene, the release said.

A barge crew discovered the remains of what is described as a “smallish female” wearing underwear in the Des Plaines River. A source told the Joliet (Ill.) Herald News that DNA testing will likely be needed to identify the body. Relatives of Stacy Peterson, who lived in nearby Bolingbrook, Ill., have been contacted by state police regarding the discovery. Stacy was the fourth wife of ex-Bolingbrook cop, Drew Peterson, who remains in custody on charges that he killed his third wife Kathleen Savio. Stacy has been missing since Oct. 28, 2007.

BOLINGBROOK – Authorities arrested Drew Peterson Thursday near his Bolingbrook home for the murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio, according to police sources. Police took Peterson into custody at Weber and Lilly Cache roads. Savio, 40, was found dead in a dry bathtub in her Bolingbrook home in March 2004. At the time, Illinois State Police failed to find anything suspicious and her death was ruled an accidental drowning by a coroner’s jury.
