Before he killed 26 people, Devin Kelley was sentenced to confinement and discharged from the military. Last week, he ominously showed off an assault rifle on Facebook. A week before he committed the worst massacre at a place of worship in American history, Kelley posted a photo of a semiautomatic rifle to Facebook with the caption: “She’s a bad bitch.” Kelley entered First Baptist Church at approximately 11:30 a.m., witnesses reported, and opened...

Feeling helpless hearing the news of yet another mass shooting, this time in a church in a small town in Texas. Name wasn't Islamic, so my guess is either a plain old fashioned lunatic, or a snowflake in meltdown. Which ever. This is all I can do about it, start a memorial song thread for people to contribute to. Theme is Texas, cowboys, oil wells, whatever Texas means to you, or Baptist hymns, if that's what you want. Songs are best, but poems, anecdotes, whatever moves you. I grabbed one of the best again, with the song Giant.

For anyone monitoring America’s far-right, it was only a matter of time before Devin Patrick Kelley, the man identified as the Sutherland Springs, Texas, shooter, became “antifa.” Antifa, a leftist protest movement with no organizational hierarchy whatsoever, was blamed for the mass shooting in Las Vegas by Alex Jones’ conspiracy website Info Wars. They were responsible for allegedly plotting a civil war involving supersoldiers Saturday—one that utterly failed to manifest. And on Sunday, after a man murdered at least 26 people in a Texas church, the right’s conspiracy peddlers waited only a matter of hours to try to blame the...
