Hang tough... by Greg Swann To my shame, I actually do have an opinion about what Senate-Majority-Leader-to-be Trent Lott ought to do in his current predicament. My advice to Lott would be the same counsel I would give to Pope John Paul II, to Bernard Law, now the former Cardinal of the Archdiocese of Boston and to Thomas O'Brien, Bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix. I would offer to all of them the same guidance, and all for the same reason. My advice, for whatever it's worth:Hang tough. The news we know, of course, is the same old blah, blah, blah:...

So Senator Trent Lott is a Racist, Sexist, Homophobe? What else is new, he’s a Republican! What did he say? That if the Rat’s most hated man in the Senate made it through his term and Lott said the US would be a better place if he were President in ‘48 coming from the Segregation Party. I suppose according to the Liberals that means that he would enforce all of the DemocRat’s Jim Crow Laws. Let us not forget that the entire south was run by Dems at the time and Strom Thurman was one of their stars. So, Trent...

Lott apologizes again for remark 12/14/2002 By DAVID JACKSON / The Dallas Morning News WASHINGTON - Under intense pressure, including from fellow Republicans, Trent Lott went before the cameras Friday to apologize profusely for saying the country would have benefited had segregationist Strom Thurmond been elected president in 1948. Mr. Lott insisted he would not step down as Senate Republican leader, although an increasing number of political analysts wonder if he can survive as spokesman for a party seeking to expand its support with blacks. Calling a news conference in his hometown of Pascagoula, Miss., where an airport and...
  • "Throm Sturmond" & Dixiecrats Were Democrats!

Congresswoman Maxine Waters – who I've met and found quite pleasant – appeared on MSNBC to discuss Trent Lott's stupid, offensive remarks. She humorously called Strom Thurmond "Throm Sturmond" and referred to Lott's "long history of supporting segregation and separatism" and "downright racism." She also made up the fact that Lott supported Strom Thurmond in 1948, when Lott was seven years old! Jerry Nachman asked the congresswoman why the Democrats are so hepped up about this instead of issues. Ms. Waters basically responded that they can ruin careers and work on legislation at the same time. It's easy with...
  • IF LOTT HADN'T CAVED, WHAT WOULD JUANITA HAVE SAID ON NATIONAL TELEVISION?

Imagine this scene on national television in the United States Senate: Prosecutor: And so, Mrs. Broaddrick, you have read the transcript of Bill Clinton's testimony, have you not? JB: Yes, I have. Prosecutor: According to his testimony, Mr. Clinton said that he has never sexually harassed a woman. Do you see that part? JB: Yes, I do. Prosecutor: Do you have any information that would contradict Mr. Clinton's testimony. JB (crying into a handkerchief): Yes, I do. Approximately 20 years ago, while I was working as a volunteer for Mr. Clinton's first campaign for governor of Arkansas, he appeared at...
  • If This Were Survivor, Trent Lott Would Be Voted Off Next

John Fund, writing in the Wall Street Journal, calls Trent Lott the GOP's weakest link. Leadership elections are held by secret ballot, so the safe money says if those elections were held today, the man from Mississippi might well lose if he were up against a credible opponent, such as Mitch McConnell of Kentucky or Bill Frist of Tennessee. Sen. Lott isn't showing too many leadership qualities right now. He fueled the controversy over his remarks by waiting four days to issue an apology, and a weak one at that. Meanwhile, the controversy grows. Yesterday the New York Times and...

<p>December 14, 2002 -- Sen. Trent Lott still doesn't get it.</p> <p>Yesterday he offered up yet another dose of contrition for the inanity he pronounced a week ago.</p> <p>But it won't fly.</p> <p>"I want to say this about my state," Lott said. "When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."</p>
  • Take a Lott of consideration on this one

What bothers me the most about this whole thing is the motive behind the attacks on Trent Lott. To be frank, I'm not wild about Senator Lott, but I think that the CBC and the democrats in general are guilty of massive hypocrisy in all this. Most of the same people who are hounding Lott very quickly accepted the apology of Senator Byrd a year or 2 ago when he used the word "nigger" to describe people. That sounds a whole lot more offensive to me than anything Lott said. Byrd's history is far more sensational than Lott's, considering that...
  • IF IT WALKS LIKE A DUCK, LOOKS LIKE A DUCK, AND QUACKS LIKE A DUCK - Trent Lott

My momma always told me "if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then its a duck".Many of you are saying "Lott isn't a racist". I'll point out that unless you're Lott, you don't know from his public actions and statements. However, he has many aspects which set off my "uh oh" meter. We are, after all, talking about someone from an old South state, an admirer of Davis and the Confederacy, who supported segregation in his fraternity and college. He's played with Bob Jones U., he's made similar statements in the past...

Once again, in his own indelible words, the Republicans' Senate Majority Leader-elect: "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either." ~Trent Lott - December, 2002 When Strom Thurmond ran for President, he was a segregationist Dixiecrat spurred into revolt against the Democrats by Hubert Humphrey's Civil Rights plank in the '48 Democratic Party platform. Mississippi was one of four segregationist Southern States that...
