CVS has agreed to pay a fine of more than $57,000 after state investigators found multiple, repeated instances of Wisconsin stores overcharging customers. The fine is the third that CVS has received for such violations in the past five years. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection announced the settlement in a news release Wednesday. The agency conducted a statewide inspection of 28 CVS locations over two days in January. Inspectors found 37 instances where stores overcharged customers. CVS pharmacy customers are being asked for identification when they buy nail polish remover, WPRI 12 News reports. The policy, which has been rolled out across southern New England in the past few weeks, means customers must show ID and will be limited on the number of bottles of remover they can purchase, according to the station. Three major drugstore chains—CVS, RiteAid, and Walgreens—have moved “Plan B,” a drug that can induce an abortion, onto the open shelves in their stores, where it is now sold like aspirin or other non-prescription drugs. The company announced Wednesday what it called “A Plan for Health,” that features a mix of rewards and penalties for employees. When the South Windsor town council meets on Monday night, they will consider an ordinance that would ban the sales of tobacco products at CVS. In July Town Councilor Dr. Anwar Saud, who specializes in lung diseases and critical care medicine, proposed banning the sales of tobacco in pharmacies. CVS Inc. agreed Tuesday to pay nearly $270,000 in penalties for improperly dumping photo-processing chemicals and drugs into wastewater at many of its nearly 140 stores in Connecticut, including locations in Southbury and New Canaan. Boston -- Barnstable police arrested a 43-year-old woman, her daughter and another teenager on Friday who were allegedly part of a shoplifting ring that sold an estimated $20,000 of stolen makeup and retail goods online.
