CVS has agreed to pay a fine of more than $57,000 after state investigators found multiple, repeated instances of Wisconsin stores overcharging customers. The fine is the third that CVS has received for such violations in the past five years. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection announced the settlement in a news release Wednesday. The agency conducted a statewide inspection of 28 CVS locations over two days in January. Inspectors found 37 instances where stores overcharged customers. Overall, stores overcharged on 2.64% of the items that inspectors checked. The inspectors subsequently ordered the prices corrected. But in...

In her lawsuit, Lee--who describes herself as an “adult ethnic Korean”--recalled that when she picked up photos from a CVS pharmacy in February, she was “shocked, stunned, mortified, humiliated, and severely distressed” to discover that her name had been changed to “Ching Chong Lee” on a receipt attached to an envelope. . . ....CVS official apologized for Lee’s “experience with the photo staff” at the Egg Harbor City store in southern New Jersey. The employee noted that “this incident will be addressed at store level,” and added that a worker identified as “William” will be “counseled and trained.”

CVS pharmacy customers are being asked for identification when they buy nail polish remover, WPRI 12 News reports. The policy, which has been rolled out across southern New England in the past few weeks, means customers must show ID and will be limited on the number of bottles of remover they can purchase, according to the station. The drugstore chain says the rule is an attempt to curb the making of illegal methamphetamine, and issued this statement, according to the station: “Because acetone is an ingredient used in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, we recently implemented a policy that a...

Three major drugstore chains—CVS, RiteAid, and Walgreens—have moved “Plan B,” a drug that can induce an abortion, onto the open shelves in their stores, where it is now sold like aspirin or other non-prescription drugs. In April, Judge Edward Korman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, ordered the Food and Drug Administration to make the drug available on a non-prescription basis to women “of all ages.” On June 20, the FDA announced that it had approved the non-prescription sale of Plan B to all women who have “reproductive potential” no matter what their age....

CVS Caremark Corp. will roll out an outreach campaign this fall to help uninsured Americans find out about their insurance options under the Affordable Care Act. Federal and state governments are planning to launch online insurance exchanges or marketplaces starting Oct. 1 that will allow people to shop for private health insurance or Medicaid if they qualify. Coverage would start Jan. 1. “We’re planning pretty close to Oct. 1 to use stores as a place where people can get information,” Helena Foulkes, CVS Caremark executive vice president and chief health care strategy and marketing officer, said in an interview. Mayor Thomas M. Menino today wrote to the publisher of Rolling Stone, telling him the decision to put accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover of next month’s edition “rewards a terrorist with celebrity treatment” — treatment the magazine should have given to the survivors. “The survivors of the Boston attacks deserve Rolling Stone cover stories,” Menino wrote in a letter to Jann Wenner, ”though I no longer feel that Rolling Stone deserves them.” Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said today: "I'm disgusted by it. They should have given the victims more consideration."

Just as the Obama administration continues to reel from three major scandals, Republicans are zeroing in on yet one more — this one involving Obamacare as it nears implementation. GOP legislators are targeting Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the solicitations she made to some of the nation’s top insurance companies and other groups for donations to Enroll America, the nonprofit group charged with selling Obamacare to the public. “Our guys on the Hill think this is the fourth scandal,” Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak told Reuters this week. “It fits into that narrative Republicans are building not only about incompetence...

The toughest part of the job for first lady Michelle Obama? Not being able to stroll around her local drugstore. In an interview with NBC's iVillage, the first lady said she sometimes chafes at the bubble of the White House. “I can’t walk outside. I can’t take my dog for a walk," the first lady said. Acknowledging that most Americans face much more hardship and difficulty than she does, she said she nevertheless sometimes regrets the "loss of privacy" and "loss of anonymity." When the South Windsor town council meets on Monday night, they will consider an ordinance that would ban the sales of tobacco products at CVS. In July Town Councilor Dr. Anwar Saud, who specializes in lung diseases and critical care medicine, proposed banning the sales of tobacco in pharmacies. Nationally, there is a problem, he said in video posted on the town's Web site. Some large pharmacies, which run “minute clinics,” sell cigarettes, while smaller, community pharmacies do not allow cigarette sales, he said during a council meeting over the weekend. “So they are becoming healthcare facilities … but, as...

CVS Caremark joined John Deere, MillerCoors, HP and Best Buy in deciding not to fund ALEC, according to ColorOfChange.org, an organization opposed to the stricter voter-identification laws ALEC advocates for. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal Wednesday announced an investigation of CVS Caremark’s threat to terminate a consumer discount drug program because the law requires the chain to extend the same discounts to the state’s Medicaid program. Blumenthal, in cooperation with Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., has sent CVS Caremark a subpoena demanding the company explain why providing the discounts to the state Medicaid program would result in termination of its Health Savings Pass program in Connecticut and other information. His actions followed a request from Governor M. Jodi Rell, who last week asked Blumenthal to review...

CVS/Pharmacy said this week that it won't be selling the popular Chia pets depicting President Barack Obama anymore, becoming the second major franchise to drop the product. Joe Pedott, the owner of the Chia franchise, said he's baffled by the drugstore chain's decision. Walgreens removed the terra cotta heads in April after some complained that the product was racially insensitive. The issue made the round of blogs, talk radio and TV over the summer. Walgreens' decision cost him millions of dollars, Pedott said. Nevertheless, the product's popularity has consistently grown -- especially after the controversy, he said. "I can't think...

I give it six months. Less if Greta gets dumped and GB ends up moved to 10 p.m. Twenty companies have pulled their ads from Beck’s show in just the last two weeks. The moves come after the Fox...
