The pay TV business used to deny that cord-cutting was a thing. It doesn’t make that argument any more. Related: The pay TV business just posted a historically horrible number, at least in terms of subscribers, by losing 762,000 customers in the first three months of 2017. That estimate comes from MoffettNathanson analyst Craig Moffett, one of those people who used to be skeptical about cord-cutting but became a believer a few years ago. He says the industry just had its worst Q1 ever.

Looks like the media has learned absolutely zero from this election. They are preparing round two to steal the election before the inauguration and when that fails they already have outlined how the next 4 years of coverage are going to be. I'm looking for advice/direction to set up a better way to get TV/Internet. Technically challenged but willing to learn. Has anyone found a way to bust loose of high TV/Internet bills? We still need a land line as cell phone reception is spotty at best, until we go to the other side of the mountain here. What is the cheapest way to get decent "cable" tv and Internet service in a very rural place, when you only need it a few times a year when there? Has a FReeper solved this problem already? The people going up there will be elderly and/or not at all techie. They just want to turn on a tv and see the regular typical cable channels and they want to surf the web in normal ways as well as use texting etc. The home might be used less than once a month, or even just a few times a year. Commentary: A proposal by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler calls for cable companies like Comcast to "unlock the set-top box." Unlocking isn't enough. The box should die, once and for all, and be replaced by apps. Cable is to TV what the dial up is to online access. We no longer need Cable to see what we want and when we want to. Streaming TV allows us to dump cable. Get a Roku or a Smart TV. Get Netflix for $8.00 and Hulu Plus for $12. And stations such as METV even stream on local sub channels that you can access for free!
