Democrats will take control of the Virginia Senate now that a recount in Hampton Roads has found Lynwood Lewis the winner of a special election. Lewis, who until now has served in the House of Delegates, beat Republican Wayne Coleman by 11 votes out of 23,000 votes cast. The State Board of Elections says the final totals are 10,203 votes for Lewis to 10,192 votes for Coleman in the district that covers Accomack, Mathews and Northampton counties and the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Coleman has called Lewis to concede the race. Lewis had been initially declared the winner...
  • Va. consultant Boyd Marcus’s case shows how money trumps principles in politics today

If you ever doubted that money outweighs principles in contemporary politics, then the case of Richmond campaign consultant Boyd Marcus should permanently erase such ambiguity in your mind. Marcus, a prominent figure in Virginia politics for two decades, made headlines in August when he abandoned a lifetime of supporting Republicans to endorse Democrat Terry McAuliffe for governor. McAuliffe’s team and Marcus trumpeted the conversion as an important political sign that mainstream Republicans were rejecting the tea party conservatism espoused by GOP candidate Ken Cuccinelli II. Instead, we learned Thursday, the primary motive was entirely mercenary. An e-mail was made public...
  • My strong hunch is that Ken Cuccinelli actually won Virginia

Take a look at this map. It's a map showing the results of the voting in Tuesday's Virginia election for governor. All the solid red areas voted a majority for Cuccinelli. The small Dark blue ares went Terry McAuliffe (Yes, I know those are the most densely populated areas of Virginia). The rest were mixed. Notice that the map seems to be almost solid red. And yet, Ken Cuccinelli somehow very narrowly lost to his Democrat opponent. To me, something smells about all this and I suspect Ken Cuccinelli actually won Virginia, but certain things happened to ensure that that...
  • In Virginia, a Lot of White Women Voted for Anti-Choice Ken Cuccinelli

    11/06/2013 4:13:09 PM PST · by nickcarraway · 67 replies
By electing Democrat Terry McAuliffe yesterday, Virginia residents narrowly avoided life under one of the most radically anti-choice candidates in recent history, Ken Cuccinelli. (He has compared abortion to slavery.) Thank God women turned out at the polls to defend reproductive justice, just like in 2012, right? Not exactly. The New York Times broke down exit polls by gender and ethnicity, revealing a majority of white women — 54 percent — voted for Cuccinelli, patron of crisis pregnancy centers. Meanwhile, a whopping 91 percent of black women and 90 percent of black men voted for McAuliffe. According to the Daily...

In the final weekend of the campaign for Virginia Governor, Republican Ken Cuccinelli has announced rallies with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and former Congressman Ron Paul, among other Republicans. The Cuccinelli campaign has put its hopes for a come-from-behind victory in energizing base Republican and conservative voters. Walker and Paul both have unique appeal with voters Cuccinelli needs on Tuesday. Walker will attend two rallies for Cuccinelli on Saturday, appearing in Spotslyvania and Woodbridge, two Northern Virginia suburbs were the Republican needs a strong vote. Ron Paul will attend an evening rally on Monday, the eve of the election in...
  • A Rally, Really, for Cuccinelli?

There’s still time for victory in the Old Dominion. Ken Cuccinelli is accustomed to winning political races against the odds. Now the conservative Virginia attorney general faces what might be his longest odds yet in his bid for his state’s governorship in the election eight days from now. But wise conservatives won’t count him out just yet. First, the bad news: Both of the two most recent two polls on Cuccinelli’s campaign against Terry McAuliffe, an infamous political fixer during the Clinton presidency, show Cuccinelli trailing by seven points, and an outlying poll on October 20 had him down 17....

EXCLUSIVE: Terry McAuliffe has promised voters he is committed to transparency, but in the final days of a Virginia governor’s race he leads, the Democrat has steadfastly refused to explain a complicated financial arrangement involving several family trusts and a union-owned insurance and investment company. For the arrangement... Read more: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/24/mcauliffe-silent-on-union-connected-loan/#ixzz2ijYL0ikj Follow us: @washtimes on Twitter

Democrat Terry McAuliffe is slamming Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (R) for a scheduled appearance with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the lead advocate of the GOP's strategy to use government shutdown negotiations to defund ObamaCare. Cuccinelli is scheduled to appear alongside Cruz on Saturday night in Richmond for a dinner for the conservative Family Foundation. The ad rips Cuccinelli for the planned appearance using local news clips, then plays a 2006 clip when he says he would have "gone right over the brink" to fight a Virginia tax increase to argue he supports government shutdowns as a political tactic. The...

PPP’s latest gave the edge to Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe, but in the second poll in as many days on the Virginia gubernatorial race, Roanoke College’s new poll says the slight lead in the contest belongs to Republican candidate Cuccinelli: Republican Ken Cuccinelli leads Democrat Terry McAuliffe (37%-31%), but more than one-fourth (27%) of registered voters in Virginia remain undecided in the 2013 gubernatorial election, according to The Roanoke College Poll. Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis claimed 5 percent of respondents. …The major party candidates are becoming more familiar to Virginians, and views are somewhat more positive, with each now seen...

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli will continue to challenge what he calls the “utterly destructive” and “invasive, oppressive” policies of an overstepping federal government. “States created the federal government, not the other way around,” Cuccinelli said to applause this morning at a Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce breakfast event. About 75 people, mostly business and elected leaders, came to the Fredericksburg Country Club today for the Republican attorney general’s 40-minute address. Cuccinelli has been aggressively challenging the policies of the Obama administration since being sworn in as the state’s attorney general in January. He compared the administration to the British...

(VIDEO AT LINK) Virginia Democratic blogger Ben Tribbett posts the audio of a conversation with Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli -- recorded, the bloggers says, during the transition -- taking Obama conspiracy theories extremely seriously, and talking about legal options. "It will get tested in my view when someone… when he signs a law, and someone is convicted of violating it and one of their defenses will be it is not a law because someone qualified to be President didn’t sign it," Cuccinelli says on the recording, suggesting its "possible" that he would challenge it. "Someone is going to have to...
