In Russian media, in the political class and among government officials, the reaction in Moscow was fierce, vocal and pugnacious. [snip] "And with every day, his behavior gets worse and worse. It seems that on the eve of the inauguration—January, 20—he will have nothing else left to do for himself but to break all the windows in the White House and to leave behind a pile [of shit] on the steps.”

It would seem that he had confused the Hollywood heartthrob with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco found the entire incident hysterical, writing soon after on Twitter; 'Welcome to the family, brother.

Call it Melissa Harris-Perry's "corpse-man" moment . . . In a segment on the role of the US military during her MSNBC show this morning, Harris-Perry, quoting the Marine Corps motto, pronounced it Semper "Fee." Marines of course pronounce it "fye." Perry surely meant no disrespect. But it is a mark of how detached she and so much of the liberal media is from military culture that she could make such a mistake. View the video here.

SNIP Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti was actually killed in Afghanistan on June 21, 2006. In September 2009, President Obama awarded him the Medal of Honor posthumously. On his Facebook page this evening, Monti's father, Paul, posted: "FYI- President Barack Obama telephoned me personally this afternoon to apologize for his error in his speech to the 10th mountain division re: Jared's medal ceremony. Apology accepted."

Is there a double standard for conservatives when it comes to criticism of their public speaking missteps compared to liberals? Take for example Politico and its 800-plus word treatise on Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann’s gaffe, written by Jonathan Martin and Kendra Marr on Saturday. They had every possible angle covered. However, flash back to May 2008 when Martin filed a post about President Barack Obama’s 57-state gaffe — it wasn’t quite as in depth (video + 17 words). That’s the sort of double standard Bachmann questioned on Laura Ingraham’s radio show on Tuesday when she explained her gaffe, in...

On Obama's use of the word "corps"... this has been making the rounds, but I thought for those who haven't seen it, it is worth posting.

This morning at the National Day of Prayer breakfast, our illustrious "Teleprompter in Chief" revealed, once again, his complete unfamiliarity with our military community. Anyone with a reasonable education through the 6th grade knows the correct pronunciation of the basic word "corps" is "core," and therefore the word "corpsman" is pronounced "coreman." The Marine Corps is pronounced Marine Core. Yet our president, who touts his education at both Columbia and Harvard, in describing a US Navy corpsman during his speech this morning, pronounced the word "corpse-man" three separate times. It was posted on You Tube, until it was yanked. Certainly...

Coming from a woman who speaks fluent Brooklynese and pronounces the word "coffee" as "cawfee," I try to avoid pointing out enunciation oddities in others. Sounding a lot like a congested Fran Drescher, early on as a granddawta, I learned from Grandma Emma how to "berl erl" before frying eggplant. Largely forgiving of "tawking" mispronunciations, my wide berth excludes only "birfdays," "youse," and "nuffin." Growing up in Brooklyn, George W. Bush's creative elocution of the word nu-cu-lar never fazed me. I, as well as most normal Americans, knew what Bush meant, and in spite of his stumbling and oftentimes mumbling,...

President Barack Obama’s flub of the pronunciation of the word “corpsman” in a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast sparked titters among listeners. Corpsman is the term used for Navy and Marine personnel who perform battlefield medical aid to the wounded. It is pronounced “core-man.” In his speech, Obama twice used the term “corpse man.” “If you sound out the letters it looks like ‘corpse man’ is the correct pronunciation,” Obama observed. “How was I to know that the ‘p’ and ‘s’ were supposed to be silent?” The President said that “inasmuch as the word was to be part of...

Gaffes are one thing, ignorance and dereliction of responsibility are another thing altogether. Everyone is missing the point about the President’s latest gaffe. It is more telling than Dan Quayle misspelling a food item and it is much more chilling than any of the famous malapropisms of former president Bush or even the soft-headed ramblings of our vice president... ...There is a common legend that Eskimos have a variety of words to describe snow. It makes sense for people to whom snow is important and whose lives often depend on a clear understanding of snow’s condition and appearance would have...

Here is video showing the dangers of being so heavily dependent on a teleprompter. President Obama was speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast and was telling about a Navy Corpsman who assisted the suffering people of Haiti. But as his head bobbed back and forth between his two teleprompters, he read the word "Corpsman" and pronounced it "Corpse Man" twice. . . . (VIDEO)
