Bachmann explains her Revolutionary War gaffe, calls out media double standard for Obama gaffes

Is there a double standard for conservatives when it comes to criticism of their public speaking missteps compared to liberals?

Take for example Politico and its 800-plus word treatise on Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann’s gaffe, written by Jonathan Martin and Kendra Marr on Saturday. They had every possible angle covered. However, flash back to May 2008 when Martin filed a post about President Barack Obama’s 57-state gaffe — it wasn’t quite as in depth (video + 17 words).

That’s the sort of double standard Bachmann questioned on Laura Ingraham’s radio show on Tuesday when she explained her gaffe, in which she confused New Hampshire with Massachusetts as where the opening shots of the Revolutionary War took place, to fill-in host Raymond Arroyo.

“I was up in New Hampshire speaking and the marvelously thing about New Hampshire is that they’re still proud of that battle,” she said. “They sent a number of people from their militia down to it. And I made a mistake. I should’ve said Massachusetts rather than New Hampshire. But you know, that’s the way it goes and we had a great trip and I was glad to be able to be there.”

But Bachmann asked why the media didn’t rake Obama over the coals for his memorable blunders that have occurred over the last three years.

Don't know if she will become President someday. It's a shame that she's not Speaker of the House right now. She's fearless.

Well yes, but she should at least know how many states we have if she is running for POTUS for crying out loud!

That was her...right?

I still wonder who helped Politico’s staff to understand that there even was a Revolutionary War and that Barack Obama didn’t hold a beer summit to settle it.

It gets tiresome when the standard for liberals is ‘anything goes’ and the standard for us is total perfection. Come on...

Sometimes it better to just drop it instead of making it more publically known than it already is. I mean such a small error or “gaffe” in my opinion (compared to thinking we have 57 states or they speak Latin in Latin America)... why open it up anymore?

That's news to anyone who has studied American history. Making things up to cover a mistake just makes her look dishonest.

I like Bachmann, but I don't like this kind of thing. It isn't very helpful, either to her or to conservatism.

Back in the days of Concord and Lexington, the surveyor that had determined the exact location of the state line between New Hampshire and Massachusetts was a well-connected inebriate and so people weren’t sure if those locations were actually in New Hampshire or in Massachusetts on the exact date of the battles. It’s actually a very murky part of our history and Bachmann’s remarks very accurately reflected the contemporary confusion.

"RUSH: Hey, folks, you want to tweak the Drive-By Media with me right now? Want to participate in tweaking the Drive-By Media? You are aware, probably, that Barack Obama lost his bearings recently and said that he was going to campaign in all 57 states. You heard this? And everybody chalked it up to, "Well, he's tired..."

To Hussein Obama, there ARE 57 states. 57 Islamic states currently in the world.

If Blowhard O’Reilly ever brings this up, let him be reminded of his discussing British impressment of U.S. sailors, ‘back in the Revolutionary days’ (he was obviously confusing this with the events leading up to the War of 1812).

I agree- we should all call the House and demand that they vote Boehner OUT as speaker

Is there a process for that?

How about a vote of no confidence?
