The Marion County Sheriff's Office posted the mugshot of 34-year-old Ricky Deeley on Facebook after he was arrested during a traffic stop in Ocala... Two others in the vehicle, 20-year-old Logan Tindale and 20-year-old Katlyn Spruill, were also arrested. The sheriff's office reports that Tindale had a felony warrant out for his arrest and lied about his name when originally questioned. Upon searching the vehicle, the deputy found Spruill in possession of a bag containing 23 grams of meth, a handgun, cocaine, marijuana, and various other drug paraphernalia.

Stenberg left this piquant comment on Jenner's Instagram post: "When you appropriate black features and culture but fail to use your position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards your wigs instead of police brutality or racism," followed by the hashtag "white girls do it better." Ouch.

To get booted off the street, a police officer has to do something pretty serious - like shoot a suspect or be accused of brutality. But in the 35th District, which covers Logan, Olney and adjacent neighborhoods, apparently a hairdo will do it. A cop who got cornrows was ordered off the street and kept on desk duty for two days until he cut his braids off, sources said. While dozens of black officers across the city wear cornrows, Officer Thomas Strain is white. So when the five-year veteran showed up for work Sept. 3 with the traditionally black hairstyle,...

A white Philadelphia police officer who came to work with his hair in cornrows was ordered by a superior to get a haircut, even though black colleagues wear the same type of braids. The Philadelphia Daily News reported Monday that Officer Thomas Strain was put on desk duty earlier this month because of the hairstyle. A police spokesman, Lt. Frank Vanore, said Strain's boss didn't feel the braids were "professional."

Every once in a while, people in Washington have a good idea. A really good idea. An idea that creates jobs and provides a service people like. Then, the government gets involved. Some years ago, a married couple, Taalib-Din Uqdah and Pamela Farrell, went into business braiding hair, African-style. They called their shop Cornrows & Co. If politicians' speeches are right, Uqdah and Farrell were heroes: Inner cities need businesses, and the couple had built a booming business in Washington, D.C. They had 20,000 customers, employed 10 people and took in half a million dollars a year. Some women came...

SCHOOL BARS TEEN OVER RACIAL HAIR ROW - Jun 21 2004 By Tom Parry A TEENAGER was sent home from school for wearing her hair in braids, even though other pupils are allowed the style for cultural reasons. Jade Fitzjohn, 14, had the trendy plaits done while on holiday in Spain. But back at school, she was told to take them out or be barred. Jade refused so staff excluded her from lessons, saying she could not return until she was braid-free. When she pointed out that two black girls had an identical style, she was told they were allowed...
