Today, the city of Minneapolis announced a $27 million settlement with the family of George Floyd. The family had sued the city for the alleged wrongful death of Floyd. The announcement comes as the trial of Derek Chauvin proceeds through its early stages. The court is in the midst of selecting a jury. Given its timing, the announcement looks to me like an attempt to prevent Chauvin from getting a fair trial, assuming there was ever any chance of him getting one in Minneapolis. This is insane! The city of Minneapolis reached a $27 million settlement with George Floyd’s family on Friday. The City Council unanimously approved of the settlement on Friday as jury selection for officer Derek Chauvin’s trial continues. George Floyd died last spring after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for 8 minutes during an arrest.

The Kentucky National Guard was activated one hour before Attorney General Daniel Cameron is expected to announce whether or not there will be charges filed against the Louisville police officers involved in the shooting of Breonna Taylor. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer issued a preemptive state of emergency for the city earlier this week in anticipation of the announcement. Fischer said that the reason for the state of emergency is the “potential for civil unrest.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced Sunday that the Board of Supervisors has authorized a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the ambush shooting Saturday night of two Sheriff Deputies as they sat in their squad car near a Compton Metro station. LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The Little Rock Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of East 8th Street. Chief Kenton Buckner says officers responded to calls of a disturbance in the area. As officers were in route, the call was updated to a disturbance involving a man with a weapon. Police said a gunman is on the loose in the area of New Florence, Westmoreland Co., just 13 miles west of Johnstown. SHREVEPORT, La. — A grand jury will hear evidence in the fall against the man accused of killing a police officer in the northwest Louisiana city of Shreveport, prosecutors said during a brief hearing Friday.
