The shirt was removed from Belk's website just hours after Fox Business reached out asking if it was aware of the merchandise. The company did not provide a statement by press time. The National Eating Disorders Association disabled its chatbot, named Tessa, due to the “harmful” responses it gave people. “Every single thing Tessa suggested were things that led to the development of my eating disorder,” activist Sharon Maxwell wrote in an Instagram post. The chatbot was set to become the primary support system for people seeking help from the association, the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to eating disorders. Tessa, described as the “wellness chatbot,” was trained to address body-image issues using therapeutic methods and limited responses. However, the bot encouraged Maxwell to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, count calories,...

In true Michael Scott fashion, two Hawaii tourists followed their GPS right into the water. On April 29, a tourist drove a Dodge Caravan into the Honokohau Small Boat Harbor in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, according to Hawaii News Now. Christie Hutchinson, who was at the harbor after sailing with a group of friends and her husband, posted a video of the event on social media. She said the two tourists were using GPS to find a manta ray tour and may have been confused because there was a car on the ramp to pull a boat out of...

Scientists and tech industry leaders, including high-level executives at Microsoft and Google, issued a new warning Tuesday about the perils that artificial intelligence poses to humankind. “Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war,” the statement said. Sam Altman, CEO of ChatGPT maker OpenAI, and Geoffrey Hinton, a computer scientist known as the godfather of artificial intelligence, were among the hundreds of leading figures who signed the statement, which was posted on the Center for AI Safety’s website. Worries about artificial intelligence systems outsmarting humans and...

This professor is traveling the country with simple advice for an uncertain future: Be more human. He says the key to survival is knowing how to solve problems—and knowing which problems to solve. He urges math nerds to focus on creativity, emotion and the stuff that distinguishes man from machine and won’t go obsolete. As artificial intelligence gets smarter, the premium on ingenuity will become greater. This is what he wants to drill into their impressionable young minds: Being human will only be more important as AI becomes more powerful. After his talk, I asked how his message to a...

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, BUT ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR THE COUNTRY THEY LOVE, AND TO THOSE IN LINE OF A VERY DIFFERENT, BUT EQUALLY DANGEROUS FIRE, STOPPING THE THREATS OF THE TERRORISTS, MISFITS AND LUNATIC THUGS WHO ARE WORKING FEVERISHLY FROM WITHIN TO OVERTURN AND DESTROY OUR ONCE GREAT COUNTRY, WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN IN GREATER PERIL THAN IT IS RIGHT NOW. WE MUST STOP THE COMMUNISTS, MARXISTS AND FASCIST “PIGS” AT EVERY TURN AND, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

If you’re looking for a reason the world will suddenly end, it’s not hard to find one—especially if your job is to convince people they need to buy things to prepare for the apocalypse. “World War III, China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Joe Biden—you know, everything that’s messed up in the world,” Ron Hubbard, the CEO of Atlas Survival Shelters, told me. His Texas-based company sells bunkers with bulletproof doors and concrete walls to people willing to shell out several thousand—and up to millions—of dollars for peace of mind about potential catastrophic events. Lately, interest in his underground bunkers has...

The tech could be a breakthrough in diagnosing and managing a deadly disease that has no obvious symptoms. Credit: Aktiia Hypertension is one of the most widespread chronic diseases in the world: nearly a quarter of adults globally suffer from high blood pressure, including half of adults in the US. It’s called the “silent killer” because there are usually no symptoms, and it is deadly. In 2021 alone, hypertension caused or contributed to over 691,000 deaths in the US, according to the CDC. But it does not have to be this way. Hypertension is very treatable — diet, physical activity,...

China's recently announced x86 Domestic CPUs by Powerstar are nothing more than rebadged Intel 10 Gen chips. A Geekbench 5 listing of the PowerLeader DP1UI-2 workstation reveals that the PL 1st Gen PSTAR P3-01105 PCU is nothing more than a Core i3-10105 CPU which is derived from the 10th Gen Intel Comet Lake family. The chip also shares the same specifications which offer a 3.7 GHz base clock, 4.4 GHz boost clock, 6 MB of L3 cache, & a TDP of 65W. Even the performance is pretty much the same that one should expect from a 10th Gen Core i3...

New York legislators are vowing to terminate a lucrative state tax break for film and TV productions if they replace humans with artificial intelligence. “With the advent of AI, we want to make sure that we continue to protect workers and create jobs for New Yorkers,” state Sen. Lea Webb (D-Binghamton) said in a statement about the bill she introduced Wednesday. “It is important to ensure that the money we invest in economic development is actually being spent here.” The legislation is the latest state-level proposal aimed at reining in AI as emerging technology becomes more embedded in government programs,...

A 17-year-old boy slipped and plummeted to his death from the popular new 6th Street Viaduct in Los Angeles, after climbing the bridge as part of an apparent social media stunt, according to police. The youth’s body was found at about 2 a.m. Saturday on the eastern side of the span, which has become a troubling magnet for gunplay, dangerous stunts and careless online clout-chasing since it opened about a year ago. The teen, whose name has not been released, was taken to LA County USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said...

Stanford researchers have discovered that certain brain signals actually flow the wrong way in people with treatment-resistant depression — and that magnets can correct the misdirection and help patients feel better. “This is the first time in psychiatry where this particular change in a biology — the flow of signals between these two brain regions — predicts the change in clinical symptoms,” said Nolan Williams, senior author of a paper detailing the discovery. The challenge: While most people living with depression can find some relief with medications, approximately 84 million people globally have treatment-resistant depression, meaning they still don’t feel...

A suspected AI-generated image claiming to show an explosion near the Pentagon went viral on Twitter Monday, sending markets crashing. Dozens of verified accounts - including national news organizations - reshared what shows black smoke billowing up from the ground next to a white building. The image appears so realistic that people became frantic as it circulated the platform around 10 am ET, which caused the S&P 500 to drop 10 points in five minutes as the image went viral. The Arlington Fire Department swiftly debunked the event, stating that 'there is no explosion or incident taking place at or...

America First Legal has launched a government-wide investigation into Microsoft’s apparent prioritizing hiring H-1B Visa holders over American workers. Oklahoma's top education official is waging a war on teachers unions that he said will completely overhaul the state's education system. Ryan Walters, Oklahoma's State Superintendent, recently sparked backlash from his Democratic opponents when he called teacher unions "terrorist organizations" during a state congressional hearing earlier this month. The meeting ended after intense questioning from Democrats who objected to many of his claims. "They're not advocating for kids," he told Fox News Digital. "They're not advocating for teachers really, either. All they're doing is lining their pocketbooks so that union leadership gets richer and richer, and they continue to fight...
