He said the social media platform had become a "cesspool of racism, anti-semitism, disinformation, and dimwitted alt-right hate"Moby has quit Twitter in protest of Elon Musk. The musician sent his last tweet on Tuesday (November 29) before he exited the social media platform. He wrote: “This will be my last tweet. Last night @elonmusk posted an alt-right anti-Semitic meme, a fake @cnn story, and an image of guns on his bedside table. @Twitter has become a cesspool of racism, anti-semitism, disinformation, and dimwitted alt-right hate, and it’s time to leave.” His exit came on the same day actor Jim Carrey...
  • Elon Musk meets Tim Cook, says Twitter row was 'misunderstanding'...Twitter owner Elon Musk apparently ends his rather short feud with Apple.

Elon Musk seems to have ditched his Twitter feud with Apple after a stroll around Apple headquarters with the iPhone maker's chief, Tim Cook. "Thanks @tim_cook for taking me around Apple's beautiful HQ," Musk tweeted. Musk had complained about Apple on Twitter this week, when he claimed Apple had threatening to boot the app from the App Store without explaining why. He also complained that Apple had pulled most of its advertising from Twitter, and questioning whether Apple "hated free speech in America". However, the meeting with Tim Cook seems to have defused the situation. "Good conversation. Among other things,...

A Florida man who went viral for a mugshot featuring his unusually large neck is behind bars again – this time on a stalking charge. Charles McDowell, 35, of Pensacola, Florida, was booked into the Escambia County Jail Sunday on charges of aggravated stalking and withholding child support. McDowell allegedly showed up at a woman's home on August 24 and sent her threatening text messages, according to local outlet WEAR-TV. McDowell gained internet fame in 2018 when he was arrested on multiple drug charges. His mugshot went viral with hundreds of thousands of comments and shares due to his unusually...
  • Solar storm from 'canyon-like' hole in the sun could hit Earth as soon as Thursday (Dec. 1)

    11/30/2022 8:38:59 AM PST · by BenLurkin · 20 replies
The coronal hole is a gigantic solar gulf stretching across the sun’s center. Coronal holes are areas in the sun's upper atmosphere where our star's electrified gas (or plasma) is less hot and dense than in other regions, which makes them appear black in contrast. Around these holes, the sun's magnetic field lines, instead of looping back in on themselves, point outward into space, beaming solar material outwards at up to 1.8 million mph (2.9 million km/h)... This barrage of energetic solar debris, mostly consisting of electrons, protons and alpha particles, is absorbed by Earth’s magnetic field, which becomes compressed, triggering...

A serial rapist is looking for love online, according to a woman floored by what popped up on a dating app. Amber Williams said it is unmistakably Dominic Yocco, who FOX 2 warned you about this past May. We reported on how Yocco was around other minors at a party, which was a violation of his bond at the time, as he was fighting serial rape charges. A jury then convicted him in September on 15 counts of rape and sodomy involving girls ages 14–16.

At the end of October, Jeep brand President Christian Meunier told Motor Trend that Jeep was in search of just the right name for the battery-electric Wagoneer S. The people who come up with names had "a few in the basket," but Jeep planned to get help from the community for more ideas via a contest to launch this month. That contest is called Name the New Wagoneer and it is now official. All one has to do is head to the website, enter a few identifying details, enter a name of 50 characters or less, and submit it to...

Chinese state television has censored World Cup games to remove shots of maskless crowds after the sight of joyous fans celebrating in packed stadiums stoked anger back home, where hundreds of millions remain under strict pandemic restrictions. A well-attended opening ceremony in Qatar – with no social distancing – led to users of Chinese social media platforms complaining that it contrasted with the severe isolation they felt under President Xi Jinping’s zero-Covid policy. Chinese netizens said it was “weird” to see hundreds of thousands of people gathering in a carnival-like atmosphere while they were still forced to live under a...

The owner of hacking forum called Breached told BleepingComputer that it was responsible for exploiting the weakness (originally obtained from another hacker called "Devil") and dumping the user records. It said that it also obtained 1.4 million Twitter profiles for suspended accounts, obtained via another API, but only shared those privately among a few individuals. On top of all that, security expert Chad Loder has revealed that tens of millions more Twitter records may have been collected using the same API. Once again, data collected may include private phone numbers along with public information. Loder posted a redacted sample on...

Google could be facing more calls from activist investors urging CEO Sundar Pichai and team to cut its OpEx base further, given slowing growth. However, we discuss why Google has been relatively consistent with its OpEx spending over time. Moreover, its OpEx margins have also been trending down, unlike Meta Platforms. Notwithstanding, Google needs to reaccelerate its top line growth to justify a material re-rating. We discuss why the market has likely reflected significant uncertainties in its execution due to substantial macro and competitive headwinds. Maintain Buy. Thesis Google (NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL) employees have been anxious over the past month after...

I'm looking for flash drives (USB 3.1 or 3.2 memory sticks) with 3D NAND memory if such are out there? MLC would be next best. I'm looking more for reliability than speed. Most useful would be a 256 GB stick. A dual drive (USB A and USB C connection on either end) would be best.Recommendations?

If I use a 64 GB micro-SD card in a dashcam only rated for a 32 GB card, I know the dashcam will only recognize ~32 GB (slightly less, actually) of this card. But, as sectors go bad, will the cam recognize only the ~32 GB minus the lost sectors, or, will it begin to use previously unused / recognized sectors, maintaining useable memory close to 32 GB?

An Irish-based senior executive with Twitter has secured a temporary High Court injunction preventing the social networking giant from terminating her employment. The order was secured by Sinéad McSweeney, who is Twitter’s Global Vice President for Public Policy. She claims that by not responding to a generic and vague email sent to all Twitter employees by its owner, multibillionaire Elon Musk, earlier this month, she has been treated as if she is no longer employed by the company. […] Mr. Musk, she claims, has since the takeover been running the company “in an unorthodox manner” and has been rehiring and...

I've been looking at new (or slightly used) laptops. Many if not almost all have touchpads that do not also have any kind of associated buttons or a trackball. So, if I am working in a document and want to select a sentence or block of text to copy and paste, how is that readily accomplished? I've read reviews by owners of such in which they complain of no easy way to do such selections, which seems like an astonishing lack of functionality. The laptops I've been looking at are 14" or 15.6", so there is certainly lots of real...

The Washington Post is reporting that Elon Musk made several “woke” staff members “cry” when he started rolling out his free speech agenda at Twitter. In a Tuesday tech report, the newspaper accuses Musk of undermining Twitter’s ability to “protect vulnerable communities.” The article, written by reporters Cat Zakrzewski, Faiz Siddiqui, and Joseph Menn, argues that Musk imposed his will on the company by gutting the “Trust and Safety team.” The team previously handled the censorship of Twitter users and deliberated to “define dangerous language.” The piece, headlined “Musk’s ‘free speech’ agenda dismantles safety work at Twitter, insiders say,” suggests...
