With iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, you can use Emergency SOS via satellite to text emergency services when you're out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. A particularly insidious dark pattern is the inclusion of unexpected fees during the checkout process. By this time, the company knows most people will already be committed to the transaction. Lengthy user agreements are another common dark pattern. Most people will simply click the OK button without reading the pages and pages of terms. As long as a business can point to a disclosure anywhere on its site, it can claim customers were informed. Consumers can try to protect themselves by always looking closely for added fees or prechecked boxes when they reach the checkout screen of an online purchase....

Between Saturday and Sunday Trump's twitter account followers grew back to its original 83 million followers. Those were likely already in his account. They were just deposited back in it. Since then an additional 4.4 million followers have come into his account. These are new people. We'll see if this pace of new additions continues. Trump as per his agreement with Truth Social can't have his stuff reposted for at least 5 hours. This five hours could be used to curate his tweets on Truth Social. The Tweets on Truth Social with the most likes over the next five hours...

Jack White is the latest celebrity to have harsh words for Elon Musk following his recent acquisition of Twitter. White specifically took umbrage with his decision (via Twitter poll) to reinstate Donald Trump’s official account, which was suspended following the events of January 6. “So you gave trump his twitter platform back,” White wrote. “Absolutely disgusting, Elon. That is officially an asshole move.” White also deactivated Third Man Records’ Twitter acount. “Why dont you be truthful? Tell it like it is; people like you and Joe Rogan (who gives platforms to liars like alex jones etc.),” White continued. “…you come...

For Trump everything is a negotiation. The simplest way for Trump to return to twitter is to enable a cross post. So that every time he posts to TruthSocial--the post is cross posted to to his account on Twitter. He could also stipulate that his cross post to twitter includes a link from twitter back to his account at TruthSocial. Musk might insist on reciprocity. But that's fine.

Galactica is an artificial intelligence developed by Meta AI (formerly known as Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research) with the intention of using machine learning to "organize science." It's caused a bit of a stir since a demo version was released online last week, with critics suggesting it produced pseudoscience, was overhyped and not ready for public use. The tool is pitched as a kind of evolution of the search engine but specifically for scientific literature. Upon Galactica's launch, the Meta AI team said it can summarize areas of research, solve math problems and write scientific code. Almost as soon as it...

Allan Alcorn was desperate when he hired a young college dropout named Steve Jobs. Atari, the fledgling computer games company he worked for, was scrambling to staff up after the sudden success of its first game, Pong. Now, here was a young hippie in sandals, waiting in reception and asking for a job as a technician. “It was 1973 and there was this kid, maybe 18, who was just so passionate about technology – said his name was Steve Jobs,” Alcorn told The Post “So I hired him.” “He was kind of a pain to work with and he had...

A Twitter employee shared a video online showing employees of the social media site who rejected an ultimatum from Elon Musk count down the seconds until they're set to be let go on Thursday night. Musk told Twitter staff this week that they would either commit to an "extremely hardcore" version of the company or reject it and resign, with a deadline of 5 p.m. ET on Thursday. Less than half of the company's remaining 4,000 employees accepted the offer to stay, Insider's Kali Hays reported. "30 seconds left - 35 seconds," the employee says in the video, posted Thursday...

The ringing, rushing sound of tinnitus is a complex condition. It's caused by a range of factors, so there's no known one-size-fits-all treatment. But researchers are reporting excellent results with a combination treatment in a smartphone app. Some 5% of people experience tinnitus at some point in their lives – I'm one of them. It can develop after repeated exposure to loud noise; that's probably where I picked it up, thanks to a long association with drums, live music and loud motorcycles. But it can also arise thanks to wax buildup, the effect of medication, inflammation due to illness, the...

Ayear after moving to Bridge City, Texas, 8-year-old Samuel Kulovitz thought his life couldn’t get any worse. He had made no friends in the swampy oil refinery town and spent most of his time in his family’s mobile home. He missed Florida and playing on the beach there with other children. But life did get worse. He hit puberty. For Kulovitz, who was assigned female at birth, “growing into being a young woman horrified me,” he said. “I kept crying and crying, and I didn’t know why I didn’t like it.” Then, at age 11, Kulovitz started venturing onto social...

I have a question regarding SecureBoot for the Dell 3260 compact workstation. I'm trying to create a custom iso to load our operating system from and it appears we'll need to import secureboot keys into the BIOs for the workstation (or else SecureBoot will not allow the booting/installing from that custom ISO). I'm wondering if it's possible to import secure boot keys to a Dell factory image for our computers. I can't seem to find any guidance on this topic anywhere on Dells site. Any computer gurus have some wisdom to share. Thank you 😊

Can someone help? Tried Ubuntu, which was going fine until it decided to disable all its networking functions, all of its own. Ubuntu community seems to know about this feature but just deals with it... I need suggestions as to which distros meet the following: Will run on a kinda upgraded old lenovo desktop that has upgraded ram and a SSD. Bootable from a USB device (SSD has no other OS installed on it, so no partition, etc. Dedicated Linux machine.) One is much disinclined from Ubuntu or RedHat/IBM/Fedora. Interested in a serviceable, low-overhead, easy to use user interface to...

Either way, they thought the Democrats were better. This is important to work out. Independent voters are not merely people refusing formal party alignment. They are that great globular middle of American politics – respectable white people, that is, white people who care about looking respectable to white people, who themselves care about looking respectable to other white people. I call this class of Americans “globular,” because they can be pushed and pulled, depending on the context at election time. They are fickle. They believe they are immune to the consequences of politics. But they can be shamed, as respectability...

Cryptocurrency developer Nikolai Mushegian had been splitting his time between Florida and Puerto Rico before his untimely and suspicious death on Oct. 28. In 2017, at age 24, he purchased a modest two-bedroom, two-bathroom home in the Fort Lauderdale area for $415,000, records show. Raised in Kansas by Russian immigrant parents, Mushegian moved to Florida in 2017 to focus on the crypto scene. Mushegian was an early developer of Maker DAO, known as the largest decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol. He was also a key architect of the stablecoin system — currencies without government backing. According to the previous listing, the...

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and several celebrities are being sued in a class action that seeks to recover damages following the company’s dramatic collapse. Oklahoma resident Edwin Garrison filed a complaint on Tuesday in Florida federal court. In the complaint, Garrison notes that the class action lawsuit could involve thousands “if not millions” of consumers nationwide that were enrolled in yield-bearing cryptocurrency accounts with FTX, which Garrison contends constitute unregistered securities. In addition to Bankman-Fried, the defendant is also targeting Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors, Shaquille O’Neal, Udonis Haslem, David Ortiz, William Trevor Lawrence, Shohei...

A federal judge on Monday ruled in favor of deposing an FBI agent accused of "colluding" with social media companies to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story. Judge Terry A. Doughty of the Western District of Louisiana ruled that FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Elvis Chan must be deposed under oath for his alleged involvement in coordinating with Meta to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story prior to the 2020 election. "Chan had authority over cybersecurity issues for the FBI in the San Francisco, California region which includes the headquarters of major social-media platforms and played a critical role...
