Way back in early February, we heard that Ted Cruz had decided to start playing nice with his fellow Republicans. What a difference 10 days make. After Speaker John Boehner moved Tuesday to pass a "clean" debt-ceiling increase, relying on Democratic votes in the House, it looked like the increase could have an easy path through the Democratic-controlled Senate. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said the nation would hit the debt limit at the end of the month, and with Congress on recess until February 25, Wednesday's vote was almost do or die. But the freshman senator from Texas had other...

Noting that “the nuclear option in the Senate, invoked with the full backing of the [Obama] administration, will further accelerate the regulatory avalanche,” U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue warned Tuesday that the American economy “will remain at a virtual standstill until we cut this thicket of regulations and streamline the permitting process” that is “costing jobs and growth.” … Noting that the cost of regulations already on the books is “roughly equal to the entire GDP of Canada,” Donohue told business executives and reporters in a speech at the Chamber’s Washington headquarters that the “stifling uncertainty” created by...

Back Home by Randall OryI left and came back. That simple 5-word phrase describes a set of life decisions, over an 11-year period, resulting in my departure from and return to the Catholic Faith.“Cradle Catholicism”I began my journey in 1959 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. As with most cradle Catholics, I don’t recall my baptism—the watery genesis of our earthly journey—but I have profound, vivid memories of my Catholic upbringing. The son of a French-Catholic father and an Irish-Catholic mother, my world was viscerally Catholic. I was raised in New Orleans where Catholic churches dot every corner—our football team...

A House committee is planning to hold a hearing next week on the Libya consulate attack, following up on an issue that Republicans had emphasized before the presidential election in questioning President Obama's foreign policy record. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the consulate in Benghazi. A local Libyan extremist group is suspected of carrying out the attack, but the Obama administration has been criticized for its confusing explanation for the strike and for security warnings that apparently weren't heeded. The House Intelligence Committee will hold its hearing on the...

Rev. Jay Brown CAMBRIDGE, Ontario, September 11, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Church of Christ minister who has been responsible for civic marriage ceremonies at Cambridge city hall for the past 15 years is facing the axe if she doesn’t agree to perform same-sex “marriages.†Rev. Just when we'd been told the Chamber of Commerce had bought the election, along comes the American Federation of State, Country and Municipal Employees to pour nearly $90 million into the campaign. According to The Wall Street Journal, this makes the public-sector union the biggest spender of all the outside groups. The National Education Association and the Service Employees International Union rank among the top five. Collectively, these three unions representing millions of public workers -- only the SEIU is majority private -- are devoting an estimated $170 million to an election Democrats insist that they are losing because of...

The White House attack on the US Chamber of Commerce isn't about "disclosure." It's about disarmament. While posing as campaign-finance champions, the ultimate goal of the Democratic offensive is to intimidate conservative donors, chill political free speech and drain Republican coffers. Chamber of Commerce official Bruce Josten tried to educate the public. "We know what the purpose here is," he told ABC News. "It's to harass and intimidate." Josten cited protests and threats against chamber members as retribution for ads the organization ran opposing the federal health-care takeover. The White House attack on the US Chamber of Commerce isn't about...

The president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce vowed Tuesday to “ramp up” his group’s political activity in the face of what he called a “smear campaign” by the White House aimed at stemming Democratic losses in the midterm elections. In a letter sent Tuesday to the chamber’s board of directors and its member companies, Thomas J. Donohue, the business association’s president, accused President Obama and his allies of falsely accusing the chamber of illegally funneling foreign money to its political efforts.

Obama file 100 here Did Barack Obama, or someone close to him, deliberately mislead voters about the extent of the US president's involvement in the socialist Chicago New Party? In the run up to the November 2008 elections, evidence surfaced that Barack Obama had joined and been endorsed by the Chicago New Party, during his successful 1995/96 Illinois State Senate run. According to Obama's "Fight the Smears" website; Right-wing hatchet man and conspiracy theorist, Stanley Kurtz is pushing a new crackpot smear against Barack falsely claiming he was a member of something called the New Party. But the truth is...

About 50 activists attended the Chicago New Party membership meeting in July. The purpose of the meeting was to update members on local activities and to hear appeals for NP support from four potential political candidates. The NP is being very active in organization building and politics. There are 300 members in Chicago. In order to build an organizational and financial base the NP is sponsoring house parties. Locally it has been successful both fiscally and in building a grassroots base. Nationwide it has resulted in 1000 people committed to monthly contributions. The NP's political strategy is to support progressive...

It seems that Senator Obama's Old party was called the New Party. The party was a Marxist Political coalition. This was not a guilt by association thing. Senator Obama sought out their nomination. He was successful in obtaining that endorsement, and he used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers. Read more on the Marxist endorsement that Barack Obama sought out: Co-founded in 1992 by Daniel Cantor (a former staffer for Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential campaign) and Joel Rogers (a sociology and law professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), the New Party was a Marxist political coalition whose...

I'm a lifelong Republican - a supply-side conservative. I worked in the Reagan White House. I was the chief economist at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for five years. In 1994, I helped write the Republican Contract with America. I served on Bob Dole's presidential campaign team and was chief economist for Jack Kemp's Empower America. This November, I'm voting for Barack Obama. When I first made this decision, many colleagues were shocked. How could I support a candidate with a domestic policy platform that's antithetical to almost everything I believe in? The answer is simple: Unjustified war and unconstitutional...

The California Chamber of Commerce and other establishment business groups are actively opposing Prop. 90, which would ban the abuse of eminent domain for economic development and require governments to pay compensation when they use downzoning and other regulations to take property. So the Chamber has sided with the big-government and leftist groups that believe that it's OK if average citizens must give up their homes and businesses to aid big developers, many of which are no doubt Chamber members. Here we see the reemergence of the long-simmering split between conservatives and the business establishment. Whenever the business guys face...
