BERLIN (AP) – Climate activists glued themselves to the ground at Cologne-Bonn Airport in western Germany on Wednesday, forcing officials to suspend flights for a few hours, authorities said. Police said five people glued themselves to a taxiway at the airport early in the morning, German news agency dpa reported. BERLIN (AP) – German climate activists sprayed orange paint onto Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on Sunday morning to urge the German government to take more urgent action against climate change. Members of the group the Last Generation used fire extinguishers filled with paint to spray all six columns of the popular landmark in Germany’s capital. The group’s priorities include getting Germany to stop using all fossil fuels by 2030 and take short-term measures, including imposing a general speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) on highways, to cut emissions more quickly.

The Italian culture ministry is advocating for a law that would impose a large fine on individuals found to have vandalized the country’s monuments or cultural sites to cover repair costs. The move follows protests staged by climate activists in Italian squares. During a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, Italian lawmakers approved the culture ministry’s proposed legislation. An environmental reporter in Massachusetts posted a video on Twitter late Monday that she said showed a freight train hauling coal being met with a group of climate change activists on a dark track.
