The campaign of Mississippi Senate hopeful Chris McDaniel has returned a donation from a controversial neo-Confederate supporter. A McDaniel spokesman declined to elaborate, but told Fox News First that the campaign gave back the $800 contribution from Carl Ford “as soon as we learned about it.” The campaign of embattled Republican incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran has attacked McDaniel for the donation from Ford, a Mississippi secessionist who was part of the defense team representing a Klansman convicted in 1998 of murdering a 1960s civil rights leader during the fight to desegregate the state.

Democrats' hypocrisy on Bolton exposed Joel Mowbray May 5, 2005 Call it the tale of two confirmation hearings. Two of the four men most recently nominated to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations found their candidacies challenged, though they could not have faced more different receptions. Both men were supremely qualified, but the similarities end there. The divergent paths for each reveal Democrats' rabid partisanship and belies their claims that they oppose John Bolton on the grounds that character matters. Six years ago, Foreign Service veteran Richard Holbrooke was awaiting Senate confirmation. As former a ambassador to Germany,...

THE STATE DEPARTMENT PLOT THICKENS [John Podhoretz] Time Magazine has a new story about the revelation of Valerie Plame's name -- a story that, despite Time's own bizarre spin, reinforces the claim that Karl Rove and others learned that Joseph Wilson was married to a CIA operative from the media. "As the investigation tightens into the leak of the identity of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame, sources tell TIME some White House officials may have learned she was married to former ambassador Joseph Wilson weeks before his July 6, 2003, Op-Ed piece criticizing the Administration," writes Massimo Calabresi. Later, he...

A self-described "loyal Republican" who blasted U.N. ambassador-nominee John Bolton as a bully in congressional hearings this week turns out to be a financial backer of the Democratic Party. Former CIA and State Department intelligence officer Carl Ford's account was ballyhooed by the media largely based on his alleged GOP credentials. But as the Washington Times reported yesterday, starting six years ago, before he joined the Bush administration, Ford donated thousands of dollars to Democrats sharply critical of the White House, including President Bush's 2004 opponent John Kerry [$500 in 1999]. Other Democrats favored by the "loyal Republican's" political generosity...

WASHINGTON -- Why did Monday's Democratic assault on John Bolton at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee have so little to do with how he would perform as U.S. ambassador at the United Nations and so much about Cuban biological warfare? It may be partially explained by tactical considerations. But the more significant reason is Sen. Christopher Dodd's long-range goal of normalized relations with Fidel Castro. Coordinated Democratic grilling of Under Secretary of State Bolton avoided stigmatizing him as a conservative critic of the widely unpopular UN. Leading the attack on Bolton, Dodd even said he agreed with much of Bolton's...
