WASHINGTON Apr 12, 2005 — A former chief of the State Department's bureau of intelligence and research castigated John R. Bolton on Tuesday as a "kiss-up, kick-down sort of guy" who abused analysts who disagreed with him on Cuba. A Democrat said he "needs anger management."

With Bolton's nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Democratic attack, Carl W. Ford Jr. appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to support accusations of harassment.

"I have never seen anyone quite like Mr. Bolton," Ford testified under oath. "He abuses his authority with little people."

they NEVER mention it when an old rat comes forth to do the Dems bidding during hearings of any sort but gleefully mention pubs if it can cast doubt on their motives.

From the looks of his picture give Ford another drink and let him get home to the Hamptons.

This is the CIA that didn't know Libya had a nuclear program, didn't know Khaddafi was getting his uranium from Niger, didn't know Saddam's people were in Niger, didn't know what happened to Saddam's WMD, didn't know Saddam was going to invade Kuwait, didn't know Bin Ladin was going to hit the World Trade Center, didn't know Saddam was going to hit the World Trade Center in the early nineties. Helped Clinton sell his TWA 800 theory, complete with computer graphics. Didn't know Atta was in Prague.

Still can't find Bin Ladin.

Goes back a lot longer than that, looking at the bio.

That said, long-time CIA and State Dept wonks don't have much to brag about lately, from my perspective.

The Mingde committee also used Cassidy to lobby for increased arms sales to Taiwan. Among the Cassidy lobbying team at the time was Carl W. Ford Jr., now assistant secretary of state for intelligence and research. Taiwanese officials said Ford helped fashion a March 1, 2000, letter to then-President Clinton from then-Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) suggesting that congressional approval of permanent normal trade relations with China might depend on the Clinton administration's moving "promptly" to approve Taiwan's weapons request.

Ford also testified before Congress, where he was identified as a consultant to the Taiwan Research Institute, in favor of major arms sales, including destroyers equipped with the Aegis radar system, a view that goes further than the current Bush administration. The Mingde group also arranged for Ford to travel to Taiwan in 2000 during George W. Bush's presidential election campaign, documents and Taiwanese officials said

Ford did not return calls requesting comment.

I watched the entire meeting and Mr. Ford (I think) is a lifelong government employee who seemed to be a decent man. It is a rather long story and I'm sure the MSM will spin it in the negative because the guy really dislikes John Bolton.

I can't see it changing anyone vote because it is basically a he said - he said type of situation. The real thing is that none of the people involved suffered any job repercussions and no false intel was given in the speech about Cuba.

Its basically 2 men who one one occasion had to collaborate on a speech and they didn't get along or see eye to eye. The differences were overcome and both men went about their jobs.

IMO its a non-issue and I can't imagine it changing anyone vote as a matter of fact the guy had already testified to the committee in privet, But they dims wanted it in public so now their co-conspirators the MSM can spin it for maximum effect.

gee - no wonder the buzzards are freaking out over Bolton. If they drag out ol'Carl, it might be because his behind will become a bullseye for the kind of "reforms' W and Bolton have in mind for the UN. Much to the consternation of the "New Zhongguo".

"I have never seen anyone quite like Mr. Bolton," Ford testified under oath. "He abuses his authority with little people."

Um, no, that would NOT be John Bolton who "abuses his authority with little people."

That would be Hillary Clinton.

Remember how the "little people" who worked in the White House during Hillary's reign were ordered never to look Her Thighness in the eye?

And if workers happened to be walking down a corridor as Hellary thundered by, they were ordered to duck into a doorway somewhere rather than pass her royal presence?

Remember how Her Royal Rodham destroyed the careers of innocent White HOuse Travel Office employees, flicking them off as if they were annoying gnats?

There's that and much more about how Hellary treats the "little people" in Gary Aldrich's book. And remember, Aldrich was proved right.

"Bet he was a clinton weenie"

Why guess when we have the power of Google?

Ford is actually a Bush 43 apointee. He worked at a private defense-related firm called Ford & Associates in the 90's. Before that he held various government and military positions, including service in the Vietnam War.

It seems to me like what has come to light here is a personal disagreement between Ford Jr. and Bolton. Not an ideological one.

(Don't flame the newbie!)

"Sen. Joseph F. Biden, Jr., D-Del., who is leading the fight to block the nomination, responded angrily to the accusation of mistreatment. Anytime a senior official calls in a lower-level one "and reams him a new one," he said, "that's just not acceptable."

And the witness said he's never seen anyone like Bolton, because Bolton abuses his authority over little people? Should I laugh or cry?

Anyone who thinks that Senator Biden and this lifetime government employee do not see underlings abused every single day, has not been in the real world. I bet Bolton is a real "social climber" too, and has even stepped on some people "on the way up."

Thank God that here on planet Zeno we never see such behavior!
