Ironically, it has long been forgotten that at one time the Afrikaners were solidly on the Left. The Left supported them during the Boer Wars (which were interpreted as wars against capitalism) and one Afrikaner member of the SA parliament in the early 20th century caused a furor by singing the old socialist song The Red Flag. As late as the 1920s one of the complaints of South African socialists was that capitalism didn't care what color one's skin was (while socialists did).
Similarly the ancestors of many American farmers in the Midwest and elsewhere were radical Left in their economic views back in the 1890's. Some of that old leftist anti-capitalism still exists in some of the rhetoric against "finance capital," "usury," and You Know Who.
