The US and China have agreed a deal that will significantly cut the import tariffs, or taxes, both sides have imposed on one another for a 90-day period. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said both countries would lower their reciprocal tariffs by 115% for 90 days. The announcement came after the two countries held intensive talks in Switzerland over the weekend.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Grrrreat news!
They ain’t stopped with the fentanyl.
Yep, those are the “temporary” (90 day) numbers, but for a “point of reference” China manufacturing labor costs are 250% lower than the USA costs. If manufacturing is to be moved back “on shore” then very large tariffs must remain on ...no “deals” or cheap labor wins out as before.

Yeah, nothing on Fentanyl yet...”the Parties will establish a mechanism to continue discussions about economic and trade relations.”.
We have not opened the border up, like Slo Joe.
And Tom Homan is still the Director of ICE.
unexpected...
Winner winner, chicken dinner! All those people that jumped off a certain bridge in the east river of New York City are lost forever.
What were the tariffs for Biden? Zero? And our goods were taxed heavily?
If you can end up a little above 30% he’s doing good.
Trump is smart. He’s giving the Chinese people a chance to remember what it was like when they were fully employed.
OTOH. if Trump puts the tariffs back on again disrupting Chinese employment. There will be a full scale riot in China.
Well ....
We’ll see.
China signing an agreement is meaningless. The Chinese don’t honor their commitments. Xi has his cheat already figured out. The question is whether the Trump team can keep the pressure on. The tendency in the U.S. is to assume that signing an agreement actually settles something and that we can relax and move on. The Chinese regard an agreement as a temporary ceasefire and a smokescreen behind which they can regroup and plan their next cheat.
Everyone in the Trump administration know China lies.
May June July August.
Christmas buying.
Yep, “front load” the stocks of LED Christmas lights and toys.
A good start, however we still pay 3x what the Chicoms do to us, the commie thieves have only 90 days to work it out and they know President Trump means business. I’d be willing to work out something like a decrease say 2% or 3% a month or else go back to what the high is now and add another 20% to the original high tariff. The whole world would know but every other country knows that US & China is the biggest trade exchange on the planet.
Also the Chicoms sneaking stuff on say Vietnam then dumping the junk on us after re-labelling it has got to stop as well.
How does this bring manufacturing back to America?
Cutting them by 115%? Makes it sound like they’ll be paying each other to take their goods.
Agreed.
We need our critical supply chains home again, please—and not to be lulled into thinking China isn’t working on our demise, no matter the tariff levels.
