Today I received a letter of cancellation of our commercial insurance based on a "virtual inspection of property". The letter also stated that I could request a hearing before the Insurance Division of the State of Oregon "for the purpose of establishing the existence of the proof or evidence for the reason given for the cancellation." They do not explain what their "virtual inspection" is comprised of, but no person contacted us or made an inperson walk through or walk around our place of business. I am further suspicious because their one paragraph inspection report states "Exterior walls of building...

You might be surprised to learn that Mississippi, the poorest state in the US, is now wealthier than Britain. Mississippi’s GDP per capita last year was $47,190, slightly above the UK’s approximately $45,000, though still well below the overall American average of $70,000. While the UK’s per capita GDP has stagnated for the past 15 years, Mississippi’s has been rising rapidly to the point that it has just overtaken us.

We recently reported that the County of Maui sued Hawaiian Electric for allegedly causing the deadly wildfires that swept through West Maui and completely destroyed the town of Lahaina. Now Hawaiian Electric is pointing the finger back at the County of Maui. It asserts it had de-energized powerlines ahead of a second wildfire that broke out on the island in the afternoon. The utility said power lines toppled by high winds likely caused the morning brush fire in Lahaina but electricity had been off for hours when a second fire occurred that afternoon. Hawaiian Electric’s stock soared more than 40%...

On Tuesday, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, acting as an agent of Biden’s campaign strategy to eliminate his most likely political opponent, finally unsealed the pretextual indictment being used for just that purpose. Over and over again, the indictment claims Trump, “with the intent to defraud and intent to commit another crime and aid and conceal the commission thereof, made and caused a false entry in the business records of an enterprise.” But it fails to identify 1) the false statement, 2) why the statement was supposedly false, 3) the person or entity Trump supposedly intended to defraud, and 4)...

“Those materials show that the Marshals likely didn’t make any arrests because they were actively discouraged from doing so,” Britt said. The training materials told the Marshals “to avoid, unless absolutely necessary, any criminal enforcement action involving the protestors.” Marshals were also told, “Making arrests and initiating prosecutions is not the goal of the [Marshal Service] presence at SCOTUS residences.” “The ‘not’ is actually italicized and underlined,” Britt noted. The training materials said the protestors might have “a First Amendment right” to protest at the homes even though, you know, Section 1507 prohibits doing so.

She recounted how her daughter’s at-first-lesbian and then trans identity emerged in response to feelings of shame about being white. Their schools compulsively tell their children how awful it is to be white, how white people enjoy unearned “privilege,” how they benefit from “systems” put in place by and for white people for the sole purpose of oppressing “people of color.” Plagued by guilt, the children—almost all of them girls—rush to the sanctuary of “LGBTQ+” identity. Once there, they are catapulted into hero status.

At a short hearing Friday, Judge Bruce Schroeder approved two deals — one, agreed to by Rittenhouse, was to let authorities destroy the rifle; the other was to divvy up the $2 million bail with actor Ricky Schroder and a Texas non-profit organization led by Atlanta lawyer Lin Wood. Under the agreement, $920,000 will be paid, in trust, to Richards & Dimmer, the Racine law firm that defended Rittenhouse. Another $925,000 will go to #FightBack Foundation. Schroder, who posed with Rittenhouse soon after he was released on bail, gets back $150,000 he contributed. snip Rittenhouse was 17 at the time...

Whether it be treatments or interventions, the plethora of seemingly similar quality research supporting contradictory positions, and the use of digital echo chambers, facilitates widespread confirmation bias - evidence supporting any initial position can be easily found. Self-serving bias and cognitive dissonance further make it challenging to alter positions, especially for those taking very public and strong positions with serious implications. We felt that attempts to organize and make the research and data easier to navigate, highlighting areas of applicability, and analyzing limitations, could potentially be beneficial.

Each day we inch toward the end of COVID-19. The end is not when cases go to zero, but rather when we accept what has been true all along. Because of multiple animal reservoirs, because vaccinated people can still experience breakthrough infections, and because billions of people globally have yet to be vaccinated, the truth is clear: SARS-CoV-2 is an endemic virus. Over the next decade, give or take a few years, every single person on earth has a date with this virus. Snip Acceptance means reminding ourselves that the things we have put on hold -- dinners, parties, lectures,...

“Where kids had not been exposed to their normal viral load that they are typically exposed to throughout the year, once they got back together and people started to be exposed to these viruses again we’ve seen a huge increase,” [Dr. Derek Jones at Family Medicine Center] said. “The kids are sicker than usual because their immune systems hadn’t got the little exposures that tweak their antibodies throughout the year, so these kids are quite sick when they’re catching RSV.”

Hey, are you guys detecting a pattern here? Every time things start to look better, all of a sudden the news is like, “Oh my God, Delta, we’re all gonna die!” Look at the surge, mask mandates are back. Oh my God! Who’s getting paid for that? The news, they love that, they love that stuff, you guys. But here’s an interesting truth. Look what happened in Great Britain. All right, I’m linking here to an article by David Wallace-Wells, where he lays this out. So, the vaccines do what they’re supposed to do, which is prevent you from dying...

... a private autopsy conducted by two doctors found he died of asphyxia, which happens which pressure is placed on certain parts of the body, limiting the flow of oxygen to the brain and shutting down organs. Hours later, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner issued a new report saying that he died of "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression." The medical examiner's report also listed "arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease," "fentanyl intoxication" and "recent methamphetamine use" as "other significant conditions."

Q. “Have you seen anything at this point that gives you a high degree of confidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the origin of this virus?” A. “Yes I have. Yes I have.”

But there’s one data point being used in all of the prevailing models, including Imperial, that no one is talking about. When did the COVID curve begin? And it’s an important point. How can we interpret the data we currently have if we don’t know where on the time axis we actually are?

Prof Daniel Bausch, director of the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team, is one of the scientists leading the trial. He said there was "no contest" between the two vaccines, and both had their advantages and disadvantages. Merck's, which is given to those who come into direct and indirect contact with an Ebola patient, could be best used in the middle of an outbreak - while the J&J vaccine could be used to protect people not yet exposed to Ebola. Prof Bausch said: "The J&J vaccine is not ideally suited to an outbreak setting, primarily because it requires two doses...

U.S.—In a rash of tragedies all across the United States, every single bump stock in the nation was tragically lost in various boating accidents earlier this week. Coincidentally, the bump stocks have just been banned by the Trump administration. Since all the bump stocks have been destroyed, it's now impossible for the ATF to confiscate them or fine people who did not destroy them. "Well, I guess our job is done," an ATF representative said. "We were gonna have to make sure people complied with this unilateral executive order, but now I guess we can just harrass gun owners for...

Caputo called for an “investigation of the investigators” and said he wanted to know who was “coordinating this attack on President Donald Trump.” “Forget about all the death threats against my family. I want to know who cost us so much money, who crushed our kids, who forced us out of our home, all because you lost an election,” Caputo said. “I want to know because God damn you to hell."

It’s hard to imagine anything worse for a democracy than journalists coordinating with political operatives and spies who are paid by the press to leak information about American citizens. But that’s where we are. We have hit rock-bottom.
