  • Why the hatred?

Why are we seeing so much hatred this time around in regard to our potential candidates? I don't care for Trump and certainly would have trouble voting for him, but you would not catch me saying the sort of things about him or his supporters that we usually reserve for those trying to rend the country in two and destroy what is left of our liberties. The things I see said about Cruz and those who support him serve no good purpose, and yes similar things are said about Trump and his supporters, but not to nearly the same extent....
  • (TX) Austin police Chief shows his colors again

In other news, our wonderful Austin police chief has come out with his opinion that citizens who do not agree with him are 'lying extremists with undeveloped brains'. Art Acevedo, the political hack that he is, basically insults people who disagree with his opinion that universal background checks should be mandatory. I find it rather interesting that the sheriffs around the country, who are accountable to the citizens, are generally against new gun legislation that imposes greater hardship on said citizens, while the police chiefs, who are politicians only accountable to other politicians, seem to love the idea of greater...

This week The Audacity of Hope, the US boat to Gaza, will sail to Greece to rendezvous with other international ships. From there the flotilla, named "Freedom Flotilla II - Stay Human," will attempt to sail to Gaza to challenge Israel's unlawful blockade which has effectively imprisoned 1.6 million civilians, almost half of whom are under the age of 16. Aboard the ships will be hundreds of peaceful activists and observers, and some ships will carry humanitarian aid. Here in Austin, CodePink invites you to join us for a symbolic launch on the Pfluger pedestrian bridge. We don't have our...

Family Makes Plea For Help Solving Triple Murder Case Julie Parr POSTED: 5:31 pm CDT May 18, 2011 UPDATED: 5:52 pm CDT May 18, 2011 The parents of a woman who was murdered along with her two children at their home in Redwater, Texas, pleaded Wednesday for someone to come forward with information that will lead to an arrest in the case. Glen and Wanda Prewett, who suffered burns when they tried to rescue the family, choked back tears as they urged someone to come forward. "Please help us find whoever did this to our grandbabies and daughter. We need...

Just received this through Infragard: For your situational awareness: (U) Community Policing: "Fake AV pushers poison US election search results" (U) "The US midterm elections are taking place today, and scareware pushers aren't sitting with their hands crossed - they have poisoned related search results. Search combinations such as "2010 midterm election", "midterm election results", "midterm election latest polls", "midterm election season" and "midterm election latest polls gallup" offer search results that take potential victims to a blank page. A blank page? That seems harmless - until you check out its source code and see that it contains the URL...

Law-abiding citizens turn in firearms to keep them out of lawbreakers' hands By Lindsay Melvin Special to The Commercial Appeal July 16, 2006 Homeowners once looking for protection, ex-hunters and wary parents were among those who pulled up to The Pyramid Saturday to unload their rifles, semiautomatics, shotguns and revolvers. The gun turn-in program that ran throughout the day was held by the Memphis Police Department in cooperation with WMC TV-5 and Soul Classics 103.5. Not intended to round up the firearms of lawbreakers, the event was aimed at law-abiding citizens who have the power to stop their own guns...

Dialed 911 and Nobody Came? How's It At Your Home? John LONGENECKER For the apolitical, the newlyweds, all the couples thinking of politics for the first time, welcome. Let's talk about how politics inpacts how you run or are not allowed to run your own home. Imagine a chronicle or journal of all the news reports from around the country of police not arriving in time...reports of special misconduct, negligence, corruption...How many are there? Understand that I’m not against law enforcement – not in concept and not personally — I’m for it, and that means I’m for integrity, performance and...

They get manicures, they wear make-up and some are dead-eye shots. They're average women, buying guns and learning how to shoot them--- even in a life-or-death situation. The National Rifle Association has caught on with a new magazine targeting women. "Women's Outlook" features female gun owners hunting, shooting in competitions and learning how to defend themselves. Women packing heat is a national trend that’s also happening here in the Valley. “Partly because we're women, partly because we're so young, when we come in here a lot of people are very surprised,” said Lauren Chase, 20, a regular customer at The...

When guns and schools were pals By Mike Moore Time to settle up on a bet. It started with a conversation I had in a Downtown bar a couple of weeks back. A guy tried to convince me when he'd gone to Mitchell Middle School, there was a shooting range in the basement. He saw my skeptical eyes narrow into that "How many have you had?" look. He suggested I try to confirm it. Possibly, if I'd read my buddy Chris Bennett's Glad You Asked column about another old range, I'd have believed the story right away. But the guy...

Women with guns By Liz Vargo The Record Herald The chances of spotting a woman at a rod and gun club used to be a shot in the dark. But women who are buying memberships to local sportsmen's associations are right on target with state and national statistics. According to Jerry Feaser of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, female enrollment in state hunter and trapper courses has steadily increased over the past five years. The courses are required for all first-time licensees. Enrollment has jumped from 7,107 women in 2001 to 7,846 women in 2004, according to the state The game...

Arkansas Sportsman : Mystery of missing Wal-Mart firearms continues Bryan Hendricks As of March, Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, no longer sells firearms in about 1,000 of its stores nationwide. One of those “firearms free” zones is the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Sheridan, a small town located in the heart of Arkansas’ deer hunting country. I visited the Sheridan Wal-Mart recently, and as always, stopped by the sporting goods department. No shotguns or rifles were for sale, and no display racks were present. Ammunition, however, was abundant. An associate at the store informed me of this new policy. This person...

Barbara-Anne Foley still remembers the day she got the call from the police that there had been "an accident" involving William Meyers, an 84-year-old Harwich resident who had been showing signs of mental confusion. On that May day, Meyers took a .357 caliber Magnum, and "in his delusions shot his wife and shot himself," says Foley, the director of the Harwich Council on Aging. That was the final straw for Foley, who shortly before that had a gun taken away from an elderly man who reacted to an unexpected evening visit from his niece, by aiming a gun at her...

Young guns take up arms: Women, children seen as future of hunting By Rick Holland / Daily News Staff Sunday, October 16, 2005 A coonskin cap, the must-have accessory for boys growing up in the mid-1950s, was emblematic of the television hero character who wore it: Davy Crockett. Kids in those innocent times were drawn to Crockett's rugged but compassionate and defiantly outdoor persona, as played by Fess Parker. Parker's Davy Crockett also was beloved for his infallibility in skirmishes with Indians and his uncanny skill with a rifle. Fess Parker and his TV role were long ago relegated to...

Chain guns and chewing gum Blackanthem.com, FORWARD OPERATING BASE WARRIOR, Iraq, August 10, 2005 By 2:30 a.m., we're up, loading our armored Humvees in the predawn darkness. Weapons are loaded, machine gun timing checked, nervous laughter exchanged over a few smokes and supplies like water, stretchers, zip-tie handcuffs, flares and even a ladder are lashed down to the trucks. Meanwhile, an Arabic neighborhood known by its sector name, 'Zulu 13,' slumbers peacefully. On rooftop balconies, families sleep together on foam mattresses to escape the heat. Our command noticed that this area has hosted more improvised explosive devices (IEDs) than any...

Program teaches dangers of firearms David Casey 04/01/2005 CENTRAL FALLS -- It’s been in the pipeline for awhile but the city’s first-ever Toy Gun Bash, an anti-gun violence event sponsored by Attorney General Patrick Lynch, will go off without a bang on Saturday, April 2. Channel One Director Angelo Garcia, who spent months coordinating the event with the Attorney General’s office, local police and various anti-violence organizations, said the program is an opportunity to teach children and parents about the dangers of real firearms, while showing them fun and practical alternatives to "violent" and "competitive" play -- nipping the problem...

There's safety in these numbers Steady decline in firearm-related hunting accidents highlights value of training classes By SHANNON TOMPKINS The stereotype of hunting as a dangerous activity in which participants regularly fall victim to unsafe use of firearms took another severe blow with the recent release of a report on Texas hunting-related accidents. This past calendar year saw fewer firearms-related hunting accidents in Texas than any year since 1966, when Texas Parks and Wildlife Department began maintaining detailed records. In 2004, TPWD wardens documented 29 hunting-related accidents, including four fatal ones, among the state's more than one million licensed hunters....
