Someone please explain to me what the ‘Chicago way’ is? These people makes Chicago sound like gangsters still run it. I am aware of political corruption, but this to me seems of different scale completely.

I know McCain was not perfect, but I am most sure we would not have this problem with him.

    Thanks

Please consider the purpose of the AK versus the M16.
These weapons are not designed for same type of soldier.
The soviet army for whom the weapon was originally designed needed a weapon that did not require intensive technical maintenance and could be used by minimally trained conscripts to produce a great volume of fire.

It is far less accurate than the M16. It is not as good
as the M16 in most aspects except for two: Easier to maintain and easier to mass produce.

The AK was designed for those not well trained and not well supported.
trained for maintaining complex weapons. The M16 is a better weapon but it needs more maintenance. If you want better weapon performance you need M16 with WELL-TRAINED troops. Jihad monkeys without much time to train would quickly find an M16 about as useful as 2x4. Well-trained US Soldier or Marine w/an M16 is a superior warrior with a superior weapon.

I think that so many Indians appreciate the USA as a friend and we appreciated the US 'diplomatic intervention' in 99. India and the USA have common enemies. We have similar backgrounds, but not identical.

Part of the problem is that some NRI's do not treat their hosts well. This, combined with the outsourcing of American jobs to India has made some Americans not like Indians.

Right now, the US needs to maintain diplomatic relations with Islamabad. I know the difference between relations and friendship. I do not trust Islamabad at all. Unfortunately, it saddens me to say that I do not completely trust New Delhi either. Reagan said "Trust but Verify." I am not sure about the "Trust" part but I am most certain about the "Verify."

I think that it is bad that the whole thing came out in the public, but I agree that India needed to be aware of the consequences of her actions.

I also hope that the USA and India will become strategic partners in the future and even have a close 'special relationship' like the US and Britan do.

  • A NEW “LODGE ACT” FOR THE U.S. ARMY – A STRATEGIC TOOL FOR THE GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM

I found this paper when searching about the Lodge Act. The problem I have with it is how do we tell if the new people are trustworthy or not. I found when I was in the Army that there were a big number of foreign nationals (I was at the time here on a green card) and that we were made welcome in the Army and in the USA because we were trying to become citizens and we were trying to prove ourselves. I knew some senior NCO's who were Lodge Act veterans and they helped us adapt. As I got to be a senior NCO myself, I retuned the favor to other new soldiers. The old Lodge Act veterans were mostly Germans and some Eastern Europeans. "My generation" were KATUSA who went RA, Asians and South Asians (like me) and some others. The ones I saw come in later were SE Asians and S/Central Americans. I hear that now there are some SW Asians.

I feel bad because the trust that I benefitted so much I feel cannot be extended to these SW Asians. At the same time, there was no state of war between India and the USA.

In a time like now when so many native born Americans will not fight for the USA, is it wrong to want to have people who love this country enough to leave their homelands to come here and fight for it? Or is GREGWEST right? Can we trust these Arabs?

I feel somewhat hypocritical because when I wanted a chance to become stay and become US citizen the Army gave me a shot. I have always been very grateful for that. I made the Army my home for a long time and it always treated me fair. Now I worry about extending that same trust to this new generation.

    What do you think?

There is a difference between those who come here to be a part of this country and those who do not. When in the USArmy I saw a lot of people who were under the old Lodge Act. Mostly Europeans, but I also saw some KATUSA and they were ok.

These people have unique knowledge and skills that US Army can use on the ground. By coming in and being US Military they earn their citizenship they are invested in the US and will be good citizens. Consider how many native born US Citizens will not serve. Think of liberal college students who are 'too educated' to serve.

My big concern is how do we check out these new soldiers to see if they can be trusted?

I heard and read about how employers say they cannot verify citizenship. This is so much trash they talk. People do not want to enforce the law because they are afraid of being called racist. Being opposed to illegal immigration is not being opposed to legal immigration. It is not racism it is obeying the law. This idea that you do not want illegal immigration is being racist is a way to scare good people. This is also so much crap.

It is easy to get real ID and prove citizenship. It is easy to check it out. I have seen the fake "ID" of an obvious illegal immigrant and I could tell that it was fake ID because it was so much cheaply made. Date was less than three months, picture had wrong background and the plastic lamination was so cheap and sticky -not heat sealed - and it was starting to peal off.

Not all bosses hire illegals as a preference. We need to make it harder to copy and make fake IDs and make it harder on those who employ illegal immigrants.

Why do we call them 'undocumented citizens?' They broke the law to come here. So many people work and wait so long to come here legally and the illegal immigrants just go right up to the head of the line it is wrong. Illegal Immigrants are unfair to those who work through the system.

I agree with Leadpenny that the media is not a united group. A monolith is not the total of the media. But there are so many untrustable and hostile in the media to the values of the US people and US Military that we cannot trust them all.

If we can agree that a significant portion of the media are leftists that hold values that are opposed to us and they work to propoganda the American people, then we can understand that they are hostile until we know other than that. It is that we cannot take the risk of trusting them when so many of them are hostile.

I do not blame these soldiers for mistrust and hostilite to the media it is easy only to understand when you see how they manipulate. Because of what they see and hear it in the media it is only natural.
You are right we are not monolithic{it is a good word} and the media is not and the soldiers are not I heard that the two injured newsmen is better now. That is fortunate that they will get better but I am still cynical of the media. I think I still share with the much of the military my not trusting the media.

Someone asked if the journalists are shunned distrusted by the Army. I was in the first gulf war and some reporters were coming to the unit My LT was gone, so I was in charge. 1SG told me I had to be extra careful because at the time I did not speak English particularly well and he said that they might try to get me to say something anti US without knowing it you have to be careful because they have a agenda that they want to get out and they want you to say it for them. In my platoon I had a squad leader that went to college and really speaks well and I had him with me and let him do the talking. It all went good, but he later said to me that the reporter wanted him to say that we were expecting lots of casualties and that we really shouldn't be here and that it was all blood for oil. Later we talked w/ 1SG and he said that it had been that way since Viet Nam.

Yes I believe that the soldiers today still distrust the media.

We should limit immigration to those who will become American Citizens and take up all the responsibilities and duties of being US citizens. Those who show that they cannot or will not need to be sent home.

The others are a drain on our economy and a disruption to the safe running of the state.

Have you seen how many people think Al Pachino's "SCARFACE" is a role model?

I see lots of people working hard to be Americans studying to become citizens learning ENGLISH and taking on those duties and responsibilities. These people leave their countries behind to embrace the USA and all the promise of being part of this great country with all of its freedoms and opportunities. They are not here to sponge off of the USA. They are here to become part of the USA.

Look at the ethnic communities of legal immigrants and you will find we are in favor of border control and stopping the flood of illegal immigration.

This is the difference. Legal immigrants think of themselves as Americans. We are here to stay no matter what. Illegal immigrants are still Mexicans Iraqis Indians whatever who are here until they decide to go home. They are tourists like so many NRI. They should go home.

They do not want to be Americans. They are just illegal tourists and should go home.

When you see those who leave Mexico come here legally learn English and earn citizenship and work and pay taxes and serve in the military they are not mexicans any longer. They are AMERICANS.

There are a lot of NRI who want only to come here and work here and make money and be safe and take from America. I see them all of the time. They are not Americans. I am American I live came here to stay here. I learned English. I will not leave because of elections like the actors. I pay taxes I served in the Army I went to war. I am proud American citizen. I am not 'something else'-American. I am American American.

There are a lot of us here from India, China, Mexico, many countries.

Every country has people who come here and leave their old country behind and become Americans. They take the responsibilities as well the benefits.

We need more of them and less of the illegal immigrants and those who will not be Americans.

It is very important for American to learn ENGLISH. I am American American, not Asian American. When I first came to the USA they did not have all of these special things for non-ENGLISH speakers. It was the best thing for me and it is good now it forced me to learn ENGLISH. Learning ENGLISH is a powerful help to people who want to become Americans.

I know that my ENGLISH still needs work but I am able to communicate in written and spoken ENGLISH and more I am still working to improve my ENGLISH at the community college. I made sure that my children learned ENGLISH at school. (he also learned ENGLISH from the talk radio shows like RUSH. I made sure that my son learned ENGLISH because it makes a better education possible. My son is now going to college and he needs no help to understand. He helped me to learn to use the computer because he was able to learn computers because he learned ENGLISH at the public school. It is better to learn ENGLISH because that puts me on an even level with other Americans.

Who wants to hire someone that they cannot communicate with?

Another reason for all of us who come here and love this country and become Americans is that we all have a common language we can talk to each other.

Bi-lingual Education places children in a permanent sub-class because they will become communication impaired adults who cannot get a better education and the better jobs. This bi-lingual education movement is a means to keep many people out of the main stream of America and to keep them as a permanent under class that will not become a true part of America. Not learning ENGLISH makes people not completely American (Indian American, Mexican American, etc, not American American)

From the very first immigrants up to now, successful immigration depends on LEARNING ENGLISH!!
We all learned ENGLISH to become Americans and now they are bringing in a whole new generation that we cannot communicate to because they have made it easy for them to not learn ENGLISH.

I write ENGLISH in capitol letters on purpose because it is that important!!!

To not learn ENGLISH and not become American is like saying that you are only coming here for yourself and to take from America without giving.

If you come here, learn ENGLISH and become American.
If you do not come here to become American, then you are a tourist.

Too many leftists use faith as a way to defend themselves and then turn around and use it as a way to be attacking others.

They say that their agenda is an issue of faith and that that is how they show their good works. Where is the merit in doing good if you are forced to do good and you have no choice? If the government takes my money in taxes and gives it away I had no choice, so I have not done anything good by being forced to do 'good.' You only do good when you have made a choice to do good. When I choose to give money to charity, then I do good. Not when the government does it for me.

That is real choice. Otherways cannot be virtueous.

I am reminded of when Clinton said that people should not get their taxes back because they might not spend it right. He thinks he knows so much better than we do how to use our own money.

Our faith in our own ways is so much less than if we had faith in THEM to make our decisions for us.

Leftists want the only faith to be in the state and Church and family stand in the way of that. So the left wage a war on church and family and personal initiative any anything that would make the state not the most important thing.

I agree with your joke, but I wonder how much Senator Kerry and VP Gore are like Cindy Sheehan. They will do anything for the attention of the media cameras.

Without the media how Kerry would go crazy! But my caption is about his past. "reporting for duty."

I really want to see his ORIGINAL DD214 please.

My Caption to your picture is not so funny as yours but I think important:

So what did you REALLY do in Paris while you were still in the US Navy?

I may not be lawyer smart or a US Senator- but I never did treason.

How many soldiers did died because of his words and actions made the war last longer when we could have won it without his dishonorable lies and false accusations. Who replaced him because he cheated his way back to the World?

I am sorry to be depressing, because you and the other FREEPERS are so funny at this, but looking at him makes me angry at him. He should be in Leavenworth, not Senator. The only problem with laughing at this man is that we maybe forget that he is a traitor during wartime to the US. Not laughter for the "Winter Soldier" but contempt.

I am sorry to break up the humor, but I think whenever we see this man we need to never forget his acts and words.
