The Rally for Economic Survival will give a united voice to Louisiana citizens impacted by the federal moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Together we will send a message to the Obama administration to lift the moratorium for Louisiana’s jobs and America’s energy future. The rally will consist of speakers covering a broad section of those affected by the moratorium including Lt. Governor Scott Angelle. There will be entertainment and a video booth for you to send a personal message to the administration.

I just got the American Community Survey in the mail earlier this week. I was curious if any FReepers have actually filled this out or had any related dealings with the Census people. Personally, it reads as a huge invasion of privacy, and I'm leaning towards not filling it out. Other than my Constitutional requirement to participate in the Census every 10 years, I don't feel any obligation to disclose anything further. So, any help from my FRiends out there would be much appreciated.

Early salary figures from Simon Cowell's "American Idol" contract negotiations are leaking out and they're eye-popping. Cowell, who reportedly made $36 million last year for judging the hit competition show, has been offered three or four times that amount -- between $100 million and $144 million per year -- by co-producers Fox and 19 Entertainment to stick with "Idol" when his contract expires next May, according to The Guardian, a London newpaper.

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Browns finally tackled Jamal Lewis. Unable to reach a deal to remain in Baltimore, the free agent running back signed a one-year deal on Wednesday with Cleveland, the team he blistered for an NFL single-game record 295 yards in 2003. Lewis was released last week in a salary-cap move by the Ravens, who elected not to pay their career rushing leader a $5 million roster bonus. He'll now join the Browns, Baltimore's AFC North rival, who were last in the league in rushing in 2006.

HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Texans agreed to terms with free agent running back Ahman Green on Sunday. The 30-year-old former Green Bay Packer will likely become the starter for a team that struggled at the position last season after Domanick Williams - formerly Davis - missed the year with knee problems. Green will be introduced at a 1 p.m. news conference in Houston on Monday, said Texans vice president of communications Tony Wyllie. Terms of the contract were not immediately available.

The Bucs signed free agent Jeff Garcia on Saturday, then announced they had also obtained the rights to Jake Plummer from Denver to potentially give the team an interesting tussle for the reins to coach Jon Gruden's offense. Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection who nearly signed with the Bucs as a free agent in 2004, agreed to a two-year deal he hopes will give him a chance to finally get to the Super Bowl. A championship is missing from Plummer's resume, too, but it appears winning one may no longer be a personal goal after losing his starting job...

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - In a long-expected move, the Minnesota Vikings released quarterback Brad Johnson on Wednesday and made the 15-year veteran an unrestricted free agent. Tarvaris Jackson, who started the final two games of last season as a rookie, and Brooks Bollinger are the only quarterbacks remaining on the roster. After the Vikings had recurring problems on offense and finished 6-10, coach Brad Childress ruled Johnson out of the running for the job in 2007 and declared the position an open competition between Jackson and Bollinger. At the time, Childress indicated he was confident in finding a starter between them....

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jeff Garcia is disappointed he never got a contract offer from the Philadelphia Eagles after leading them to five straight wins and a playoff victory following Donovan McNabb's season-ending knee injury. "I was surprised I wasn't offered a contract. There was never anything to negotiate over," Garcia said Monday in an interview with Comcast SportsNet. "We never know what it would've amounted to. It wasn't about the money. It was about being in a great situation."

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached an agreement with veteran quarterback Damon Huard on a three-year extension that takes him off the unrestricted market and further dilutes the pool of players who will be available at the position when the free-agency signing period begins on Friday. Financial details were not immediately available on Huard's new deal, but it clearly represents a substantial raise. Huard earned a base salary of $710,000 in 2006, the NFL minimum for a player of his tenure.
