Via Greg L. at BVBL, it looks as if the "For Lease" signs are already up in what is/was the Deeds campaign offices in Prince William County: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIl9Gia6er8&feature=player_embeddedUPDATE: The WashPo's Monday Labor Day edition does little to dispel the notion that Deeds is pulling out of PWC, citing his struggle "against anonymity in Northern Virginia" which has led him to a strategy of shoring up what should be his natural constituency in small towns. The amount of time Deeds spends in rural Virginia has also worried some Northern Virginia supporters, who say it would be a mistake to assume that...

Republican Robert F. McDonnell has claimed a clear early lead over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds in the race for Virginia governor, according to a new Washington Post poll. Widespread criticism of the direction of a state run for the past eight years by Democrats and an increasingly GOP-friendly electorate have propelled McDonnell, who runs competitively even in the Democratic strongholds of Northern Virginia. Less than three months before Election Day, the poll shows that relatively few Virginia voters are following the race closely, signaling that it could fluctuate considerably between now and November. Even fewer claim deep knowledge of McDonnell,...

Updated: 12:00 AM ET July 7, 2009 Palin's Plan By Roger Stone It was 1962. Richard Nixon had had enough. Enough of being called "Tricky Dick, the man no one would buy a used car from." Enough of the elitist derision that had come his way since the Hiss case. He had had enough of the liberal media who consistently held him to a higher standard than his Democratic opponents and poked fun at his lack of sophistication - he being the son of a grocer. So Nixon blew. He announced the end of his career in seeking elective office;...

There is much discussion as to whether the GOP should “forget Reagan” and move on so as to attract centrist voters. Of course, Democrats are gleefully fueling such talk. After all, they don’t have the GOP’s best interests at heart. Why would they? They want their party to win, despite their claims of having a “healthy two-party system” being in the best interest of the nation. Sure, by all means let’s forget the man who won a 49 state landslide. Let’s abandon the conservative Republican principles he espoused — pro-tax cuts, pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment — that Democrats were forced to...

Sources tell Virginia Virtucon that RPV Chairman Del. Jeff Frederick will NOT resign from his post and will stay and fight the attempt to remove him. A vote to remove Jeff is now scheduled for April 3. While the 3/4 majority of State Central Committee members necessary to remove a chairman have signed on to the letter, which is said to include ten allegations against Frederick, Jeff is currently working on peeling away support for the letter.

In a move that has been brewing for quite some time, but only reached critical mass within the last 48 hours, 3/4 of the Republican Party of Virginia's State Central Committee have signed on to a letter asking RPV Chairman Jeff Frederick to step aside. Why is the 3/4 number significant? Well, that is the amount required in order to forceably remove a chairman from office... We've been hearing from multiple sources off-the-record over the past two days that such a move was imminent and that the letter would soon be delivered. That letter was delivered late this afternoon. While...

The 10 GOP county leaders meeting behind closed doors in Albany today to discuss the 20th CD have settled on running Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco in the yet-to-be-announced special election for the seat vacated by now-Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Members of Tedisco's Republican conference are just now getting the news (ah, the wonders of modern technology and instant communication), although there has been no official word for the state Republican Party HQ on State Street where the leaders are sequestered. This means there might be more churn in the Assembly. If Tedisco wins, the Republicans will have to pick a...

Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco emerged from today's meeting of Republican leaders from the 10 counties that form part of the 20th Congressional District with enough support to declare himself the party's chosen candidate. Tedisco bested former gubernatorial candidate John Faso as well as state Sen. Betty Little for the Republican slot in the upcoming special election to fill the U.S. House seat vacated this week by Kirsten Gillibrand's elevation to the U.S. Senate. Gillibrand was sworn in earlier today. Tedisco will be running in a majority-Republican district that Gillibrand, a Democrat, won twice. The Minority Leader will likely be...

A teenage neighborhood burglar broke into a Dale City home last week, shot and killed a former schoolmate he unexpectedly found asleep on the couch and then killed the teen resident's mother when she got home and tried to call police, Prince William County authorities said yesterday. In the end, police officials said, the 17-year-old left the house with personal items worth less than $1,000.

Staff Published: December 22, 2008 Prince William County police have charged a 17-year-old in the double slayings of a Dale City woman and her teenage son. Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert said Monday that Jean C. Smith, 39, and her son James Smith, 19, were killed during an attempted burglary at their home on Langford Court on Friday afternoon. The 17-year-old, who lives in the neighborhood, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, burglary and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Neighbors and sources identified the teen as Xavier Pinckney. His girlfriend, 22-year-old Jacqueline Munoz,...

By JEFF E. SCHAPIRO TIMES-DISPATCH COLUMNIST After ducking a re-election fight for U.S. Senate to run for governor in 1989, Paul Trible struggled to establish credentials as a prospective chief executive. At a debate in Williamsburg with his rivals for the Republican nomination, he couldn't even list the governor's four basic constitutional duties. It came as no surprise that Trible -- now a chief executive of a different sort: president of Christopher Newport University -- lost the primary. There may be a lesson in the decline and fall of Paul Trible for another politician attempting a fast one for governor:...

Are the Exit Pollsters Up To Old Tricks?I noticed this account of an exit pollster in Stafford, Virginia: 08:32 – AP doing exit polling in Stafford. Talking 4 to 1 to minorities over whites at a Republican precinct (Falmouth). Expect it to be skewed. Don’t trust the exit polls as they start to trickle out. Only an anecdote, but not promising. Are the exit pollsters aiming for egg on their faces two presidential races in a row? 11/04 04:02 PM

Just about two months before then-Sen. George Allen uttered the made-up word "macaca" that was transformed into a racial slur against Indian-Americans by Democrats, gaffe machine Sen. Joe Biden said this much more direct and insulting comment about Indian-Americans. Never mind all the doctors, lawyers, engineers and software programmers. Apparently, in Dunkin' Donut Joe's mind, they're all like Apu from "The Simpsons" and, according to Biden, you can't go into a 7-11 or Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.
