If California splits into 6 states, the U.S. Senate would have 110 Senators (49 states + 1 California + 5 new states X 2).
Right now, the geographic area of California contributes 2 liberal senators to the 100. Or 2%.
In the newly proposed configuration, the geographic area that now represents California would contribute 12 senators to the 110. Or approx 11%.
Even if only half of those 12 were liberal, California’s current geographic area would increase the liberal contribution of senators from 2% to 5.5%.
My concern is for the United States. If I should happen to end up in a new state that elects two conservative senators, that’s great for my state. But my country would not be better off.
That was my point.
