When the hundreds of thousands of Penn State alumni hear the name JoePa, they think of moral leadership, of the kind of person they aspire to be. Of his warmth, his fatherliness, his steadiness, and his granite character. Joe Paterno was for hundreds of thousands of alumni the very model of the moral ideal of Western humanism. Hundreds of thousands of alumni think a huge injustice was committed against JoePa by the board of trustees, and they have emphatically expressed their sentiments to the new interim president of Penn State during his coast-to-coast series of alumni meetings to damp down...

Michelle Obama showed off her enviably toned thighs as she powered past the President in tiny purple cycling shorts on the first family's bike ride on Martha's Vineyard today. Wearing a fashionable printed T-shirt and Converse trainers, the First Lady showed that she still has style, even when on vacation. But her husband looked goofy and tired as he lagged behind wearing a baggy black polo shirt, and perhaps more surprisingly jeans

President Obama flubbed his remarks to troops at Fort Drum Thursday when he told the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division about the time he awarded the first Medal of Honor to someone not receiving it posthumously. The medal, he said, went to Jared Monti. The only issue is that Jared Monti died in service in Afghanistan, and did in fact receive the medal posthumously

Look who is presiding over a special celebration honoring Catholic clown and race-baiting reverend Michael Pfleger (hat tip: Matt A.)Yes, the Archdiocese of Chicago’s “Office of Racial Justice” is bestowing the demagogic Pfleger of the St. Sabina parish with a “lifetime achievement award” for his “service in pursuit of dismantling racism, injustice and inequalities on behalf of African Americans and all people of color” — and the Archbishop of Chicago himself, Cardinal George, is the official “presider.”

On Feb. 20, 2007, a post on the Paul, Weiss Web site proudly announced "Paul, Weiss achieves more victories for Guantanamo detainees." Two detainees were released from Gitmo to their home in Saudi Arabia. One was Majeed Abdullah Al Joudi, a recipient of the Amnesty International "report." The Web site needs an update. The Pentagon has identified Al Joudi as a "confirmed" recidivist who is "directly involved" with the facilitation of "terrorist activities." Yousef Al Shehri, the detainee who led his cell block in the feeding tube rebellion, was also released in November 2007. In early 2009 he was listed...

Fast-forward to the reception in the East Room of the White House, before the Kennedy Center Honors show. Said the president: "Bruce was a great fan -- a great friend over the last year, and when I watched him on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when he rocked the National Mall before my inauguration, I thought it captured as well as anything the spirit of what America should be about. On a day like that, and today, I remember: I'm the president, but he's The Boss."

What do you wear when you're invited to lunch with Michelle Obama? If you're Rebecca Martinez, a 17-year-old at Sheridan High School, you wear a satin blouse and a pencil skirt "because it's so in right now." If you're actress Susan Sarandon, you wear a slouchy off-white jacket, roomy trousers and sneakers because you've been around long enough to know how high heels torture your feet after you've been standing for a couple of hours. If you're actress Fran Drescher and want everyone to know you're still a hottie, you wear a curve-hugging navy- blue sweater dress and knee-high boots.snipEighty...

A new Fairleigh Dickinson-PublicMind Poll finds New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine (D) edging ahead of Chris Christie (R), 44% to 43%, within the poll's margin of error. Another 4% volunteer they will vote for independent Chris Daggett and 5% say they are undecided. When Daggett's name is read in an interview along with Corzine's and Christie's name, Corzine leads Christie 38% to 37% and Daggett gets 17% of the vote. Key finding: It's clear independent candidates could be the deciding factor in this race. Even when another independent candidate's name is read -- such as Gary Steele -- the effect...
