    "Crank theory on tax cuts

    Dear Editor:
I live in Augusta, Ga., and the Augusta Chronicle recently ran one of your editorials entitled "Tax Cuts Warranted." In your editorial, you claimed that under Reagan, tax cuts boosted tax revenues. This is completely false. Here are the statistics from the U.S. Office of Management and Budget's annual historical tables (1987):

Year Tax Collections in Constant (adjusted for inflation) 1987 dollars

    1981 $766.6 billion

1982 $738.2 billion Reagan's tax cuts go in effect here.

1983 $684.3 billion Revenue from corporate income tax fell so drastically that Reagan agreed to a corporate

tax hike here. Remember his "revenue enhancement" as a euphemism for a tax increase?

    1984 $730.4 billion

    1985 $776.1 billion

It took five years for the tax collections to equal what they were before Reagan cut taxes, and this is when the tax revenue base is naturally increasing with the increase in the GDP which occurs every year, unless there is a recession. Economists are in near unanimous agreement that supply-side theory has been proven false. In fact, there is not a single supply-side wing in any college economics department in the United States.

It's a crank theory, popular with politicians who think they can promise us the moon and the stars.

    Mark Gelbart"

    Mr. Gelbart:

I see you only posted the years 1981 - 1985.

Gee, I'm just curious. Since you bothered to look this up, I'm wondering......what was the Collected Tax Reveune like for the LAST 3 YEARS Reagan was in office? You know, like Reagan was President from 1980 to 1988?

Where are the figures for 1986, 1987 and 1988?

Perhaps you'd like to post it?

    Or should I?

Conservatism isn't just relegate to white people in the South.

Though that seems to be what you are getting at. What you are really attempting to say is that Conservatism is what is dragging this country down.

Quick Question: except for the notable exception of John F. Kennedy, where did the last few Democratic Presidents come from?

    Answer:

    LBJ: Texas
    Clinton: Arkansas
    Carter: Georgia

At least we conservatives here don't couch our words in race-baiting language like you do. We simply say the upper-northeastern blue-blood elitist liberalism is bad for the country.

We don't go on to point out that most upper-north east liberal blue blood happen to be white.

  • Bush should NOT Debate Kerry

I agree, there should be at least 2 debates.

They would be good for Bush because the left actually buys into it's own propaganda - that Bush is a moron.

Remember what happened to Al Gore? Gore thought he was gonna wipe the floor with Bush. And by the last debate he had hired feminist Naomi Wolf to teach him how to act like an 'Alpha Male'.

Bush has gotten good advice from others who have debated Kerry in the past, like William Weld. Kerry's single most effective debate tactic is........to change the subject.

That's it. He does it over and over and over and over.

So all Rove and Bush's advisors have to do is counsel him to keep going back to the main subject being debated and don't let Kerry change it.

Bush can be an exceptional speaker. The left may not believe it and may have spent the last 4 years brainwashing themselves that he's not, but I saw the speeches he made while Gov. of Texas, and the ones he made after 9-11.

Bush knows how to connect with people because he can speak from his heart from conviction.

Kerry can't do that. Kerry will hem and haw and digress and nuance and try to feel out the answer that is desired.

Bush is a good debater. Just ask Al Gore. I don't think Kerry has bothered to ask Al, though.

Come On guys, you gotta look at from Dan the Great's viewpoint!

Here he is, after one hell of a week, flying down to Texas to meet up with the source of the memos so he can get the stories straight and continue the cover-up while he's making conference calls back to Black Rock to get the latest news and..................

OH NO! HERE COMES A FOX REPORTER WITH A CAMERA!!! OH, THIS IS JUST GREAT!!!

It's obvious Dan is in Texas to have a up close and personal meeting with the source that gave CBS those documents. If Rather was duped, he will likely kick somebody's ass. If he was in on it, he'll end up in long spitballing sessions while they try to get their stories straight.

Either way, his coming down to Texas doesn't look good. And now a Fox News Crew has his arrival in Texas on tape, so now the whole world knows that Dan The Great is in Texas.

    Of course he was pissed!

    Sharpink;

    Good points.

When two Bush-Cheney unpaid people were demonstrated to have ties to the SwiftVets, BOTH immediately stepped down and away from the President's campaign.

President Bush has condemned all 527's and even filed a lawsuit with the FEC last March asking that they all be banned.

On the other hand, the movement between the Kerry Campaign and anti-Bush 527's is nothing short of astonishing. Now a key Kerry campaign shaker and mover is revealing on 60 Minutes II that he 'helped' get Bush into the TANG after he specifically swore under oath a few years back that he didn't do that.

Will this man Barnes be asked to leave the Kerry campaign anytime soon?

The media has been repeating Kerry's charge for weeks that the SwiftVets are a Bush front group. Where is the MSM investigation into the links between Kerry's campaign and the anti-Bush 527's?

Now that forged documents have entered into the mix, this is more crucial than ever.

    Some breather.

Let's see, forged documents were given to the DNC, then passed on to your campaign. You looked at them, couldn't see they were obvious fakes, and then gave them to your pals at CBS News.

Then a 60 Minutes story airs showcasing these false documents along with allegations stated by a guy who happens to be one of your major campaign players who states he helped your opponent get into the TANG - despite the fact he swore under oath a few years ago that he didn't.

    Within days:

    1. The Blogosphere once again leads the way in demonstrating the docs are fake...
    2. The close ties to your campaign of the 'Bush family Friend' who supposedly helped GWB get into the TANG are all over the internet
    3. The SwiftVets are still out there and have not even brought up your visit to Paris yet - you kept waiting for the story of the SBVT to die but thanks to the blogs and FOX news it didn't.
    4. After getting advice from every famous Dem on the planet to stop talking about 30 year old stuff and focus on the issues of today, your campaign has just been exposed handing off forged documents to the media that smear your opponent based on............30 year old allegations.

If this is a breather, Kerry will be deep in a coma by Nov. 2.

The only reason I ever go to Salon.com is to read Christopher Hitchen's stuff. He's the only one there who has a modicum of understanding of the war on terror.

yeah, I know he hated Reagan and he ain't a conservative by a long shot. STill, he's got the best stuff when it comes to kicking left in the nuts on their anti-war BS.

Dear God man, do you realize what you've done? You've posted the record of a President who has done more in 3 1/2 years than Clinton did in 8 years!

Boy, Bush should run on that record and forget about all this 30 year old Vietnam / TANG stuff! Oh wait, I forgot - he is running on his record and he isn't bringing up the 30 year old stuff!

I wonder if anybody has researched Kerry's views on Clinton's Air War in Bosnia, what his take on the Somolia mission was?

We actually had the backing of the UN for the first Gulf War and Kerry voted against it. Then the last War where we took Hussein out we spent over year trying to get UN approval, didn't ultimately get it, but Kerry votes for it.

And now it's good to remember that he wanted the US to invade Haiti. I had totally forgotten what a mess our Haiti policy was under Clinton. Thank you for pointing this out.

My perception is that McCain is waiting and biding his time.

John has not been totally against the SWiftVets. Once they got past talking about the medals and began airing ads on Kerry's anti-war activism you noticed McCain's criticism of the ads abruptly ceased. His point was he didn't think they should make an issue out of what Kerry did in Vietnam, but the anti-war stuff was legitimate.

McCain's main focus is totally on NOW, the war on Terror. When he gave his RNC speech, how many times did he mention Vietnam?

McCain knows John Kerry. That is why he is supporting Bush for Commander In Chief. He emphasized that in his speech. He likes Bush's recored over the past 4 years and as far as this fiery, opinionated Senator is concerned all this 30 years old stuff should just go the heck away.

But now, if it is proven that a key Democratic Kerry supporter made false testimony and that false documents were provided by the DNC to CBS to smear Bush and turn the national dialogue back 30 years to the TANG issue AGAIN.....

Don't worry. You will hear from Senator McCain on this. He is SICK AND TIRED of Vietnam and the TANG issue and is well aware it is only one party that keeps bringing it up. And if they turned to forgery and lying to bring the issue up again, you may very well see Sen. McCain lose it when he talks about it.

My perception is that Sen. McCain is off somewhere in a quiet room in his slow burn mode. When he reaches ignition state the whole country will know it.

Yeah, I can see this now.

Karl Rove calls up Bob Barnes, top key Kerry major player and says "Hey buddy, can ya do me a favor? I want you to go on TV and say you helped GW get into the TANG after you swore under oath a few years back that you didn't. And by the way, here's some documents I want to give you to pass on to the Kerry campaign. Note how they show that my guy was trying to pull strings to get out of doing his service and avoid having to take physicals. Make sure you hand this stuff over to CBS. Good luck with this mission if you decided to accept it!"

Yep, Bob Barnes is regular Manchurian Candidate, a robot brainwashed years ago by Karl Rove and now this clever ploy by Rove not only removes a major Kerry backer from the picture, it also does explosive damage to both the Kerry campaign and CBS News.

The fact is when McAullife realizes they are caught, all he can do is level a finger at a prominent Republican advisor and go "The intellectual descendent of Nicolo Machievelli fooled me! What brilliance! Boy, is that guy smart or what? What genuis! What sheer elan'! How could he know we wouldn't spot they were obviously forgeries and not use them! Oh, he reads us like a book!"
