WTH is that supposed to mean? Because she graduated from UF you think a Miami fan is doing this? That’s crazy.

There was a complete meltdown on the offensive side of the ball for Miami. All of the 2,500 commentators from ESPN's 65 channels were saying the same thing, that he can't coach. The AD threw out all of the press from the lockeroom just five minutes after they opened it and proceeded to rip open a full can on the HC, OC and OL coaches. I suspect that barring a trip to a BCS game this year we will have a new coach at the helm.

Outside of the VaTech last year, can anyone point to a Canes game against a real opponent where they dominated? Most of these games were won by 3-4 points, the same spread of the games we lost in that same time period (excepting the LSU beat down in the peach). Poor preparation and execution by the staff.

Lost the last part of my sentance there.

These banks have set them up because the banks no longer have the risk, it is sold off to investors who accept that risk for a significantly higher return.

You don't understand the nature of greed with corporations. They originate loans/debt, bundle them up and sell them with no intention of having all those debts paid off. They sell off different tranches of return to separate investors depending on the amount of risk/return they are willing to take. The folks on the origination side of the buisiness have no responsibility if these things go bad - they are off making more product for the bank to sell, there is no responsibility in making these debts, all you have to do is produce. The securitization system can handle the losses, it was designed to handle the losses. (Google it yourself ABS - Asset Backed Securities or C MBS for commerical loans)

Those record people filing is a result of the change in law last October and are a reflection of the system described above. Again the people most affected by this are the ones who least understand the risk invovled. I agree they should know better, but these banks have set them up.

No - lenders do give out money to people without the expectation of getting it all back. That kind of thinking might work in the classroom but not in real life. As long as banks pay out a % to folks who originate debt there will always be bad loans. It is a cost of doing business. As for the collection agencies, they buy those loans literally for pennies on the dollar and trust me, they ain't working for free, they are making a killing. Everyone knows what they are getting into except the little guy.

Oh and BTW I have worked at a bank for over 9 years and personally manage a portfolio of over 7 billion dollars in loans , I think I know what the cost are in collections etc. Our group just passed our year end 2001 earnings in the first quarter of this year. In all the years I have been there (98 bond market crash, Tech bomb, and 9/11) we have never lost money.

No I disagree this law is a showcase for where the GOP has sold us out to special interests. Has there been abuse of the system, sure; but these companies are not coming into the courts with clean hands. Go to any college campus in the country and there are more credit card applications than beer or smoking adds combined. Turn on the TV and 3 out of 10 adds are for how the good life can be gotten with a piece of plastic. At least in the viagra adds they are forced to tell you the side effects. I am all for personal responsibility but these companies are predators and they don't care how many families they ruin. Our government should not have sold us out to these mobsters.

They need to evacuate the city and move those people as far inland as possible before the next storm moves in. Next month is the peak of the hurricane season and the water temps in the gulf are still around 90. God help us all if those people are there through another one with so much of the infrastructure compromised.

As an aside, someone in their post before the storm said something to the effect that the mayor of the city formerly known as New Orleans did not want to order an evacuation and did so only after the President called him to do it. Is that true or bunk?

Actually there is more to this story, up until this year they never had a women apply. There was another lady who applied and that was when they discovered the rule. They were in the process of changing when Shalala found out about it.

Politics aside, Shalala has done a great job at the U, just yesterday she landed a 100m donation to the medical school.

Ok, well we (Miami) have the QB from LaSalle, and he is riding the pine, and since we are on the subject we have Greg Olsen (who will be a great TE next year) who signed with ND enrolled, then left the team the next morning along with his brother who had been there for a year.

Exactly why then are these kids not marching over the golden fields of Indiana to sign up? Besides, maybe they should go to BC? That Catholic school has had a better winning record and has owned ND the last couple of times they have played.

"Notre Dame is the only school with a national TV contract that I am aware of. That would seem to me to be a big drawing card from high school talent. Further, it has a natural recruiting base of every Catholic high school in the nation. With these two factors going for it, there is no reason at all - aside from bad coaching - that ND shouldn't finish in the top 15 EVERY year."

OK, sure. Go ahead and while your at it, run for the DNC chair; because there certainly is nothing wrong with their model either.

Today's catholic schools are not exactly producing blue chippers, maybe in soccer and lacrosse. Even if they did these kids and their parents want them to go to schools where they can get a shot at the NFL. A school like Miami has produced what 15-16 1st round players. They will go to a USC, FSU, OU, UF etc long before they consider going to some school in the plains of Indiana. As for national exposure, if you have basic cable you are seeing tons of football programs. I personally love the ESPN Thursday night games, usually good for an upset to start the football week. Heck I have see Oklahoma State three times this year and I live in Charlotte, NC. Everyone is national. The playing field has been equalized.

I think you need to read this book to understand what has happened. You can find it on Amazon, at least read some of the reviews to get the gist of it.

So much for the golden domer's "return to glory". Not to sound morbid, but do you think that there was a connection between what happened today and Ebersold's planned flight to ND? I believe that was where he was heading.

The worm has turned. The modern college football world which was created in the wake of ND's double handed deal with NBC while they were supposed to be negotiating on behalf of the whole CFA - forcing all the major independents - Penn ST, FSU, and Miami to join conferences. Throw in ND's bastard child deal with the big least joining in all sports but football while still retaining the seeding rights for bowl games, one of the many reasons for the second upheaval last year with VT, BC and UM joining the ACC. Now they are just a shell of what they were, living off past; something recruits aren't buying these days. They are desperate, firing a coach, and stocking their schedules full of cupcakes.

I think this might be the beginning of the end for an independent ND. If this next coach flops and NBC puts their wallet back in their pocket you know what will happen next - conference city. The shocker - I don't think it will be the Big 10 which has been waiting at the alter, I think they will join the ACC. When the BE/ACC shake up was settling down with VT and UM in, while BC was out. ND did have communications with the ACC, but it was short lived as the folks in Greensboro said it was all sports or nothing. I think they will be back b/c the ACC has a better mix of public/private schools, has more of a national presence (heck only 1 game of Miami's wasn't on nationally this year) and will be doing the same research pooling that the big 10 has. Just my .02

If there is a restriction on broadcasting within 60 days of the election then you could easily send out DVD's to targeted precincts in battleground states. It would be relatively cheap to carpet bomb them with those the way AOL used to. Plus it would be unique/new this go around so most people would pop em in just to see what exaclty id in a political dvd.
